I Joined CorePower Yoga?!?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

Recently I did the unthinkable: joined a yoga organization.

My mother asked me to go because she had a week for free and needed a friend. For somebody that has two left feet, trips over air, and has not worked out in about 4 years, this was a big deal. I had been looking for a fun activity that would help me stay active and lose weight at the same time. My prayers were answered when I went to CorePower Yoga in Kailua.

I decided to just hop on in it, and my first class was called Yoga Sculpt. This class is held in a heated room that hit 98 degrees. Yes, this was a hot yoga class, something I had never done before. I was anticipating just a lot of stretching, but was totally shocked to find that wasn’t the case.

We started with a bit of yoga poses, and the instructors did a great job at making me feel good about myself even though I knew nothing about the poses. Then it started to get intense. We went onto weightlifting for 20 minutes, which made my arms feel like jelly while trying to hold a Warrior Pose. Next was the cardio for another 20 minutes, when mixed in with weights was sure enough to make me question why I had attended the class in the first place. We ended the class with a cooldown of yoga poses. By the end of the class, I felt like I had just dumped myself into the ocean; I was sweating like a pig and my arms/legs were about ready to fall off.

Needless to say, the workout kicked my butt. I had to walk outside for some fresh air, but the instructors and other yogis were very supportive. They made sure I got the rest and water I needed in order to have a really good workout. They pushed me to my limits, and a little further because they believed I could handle it. When I walked out of that steaming hot room with my slippery yoga mat, it was the first time in a long time that I felt proud. It lasted only an hour, and trending music played throughout the entire building that made the workout go faster. CorePower Yoga instructors gave me the workout I had been yearning for for so long! I made friends with fellow yogis, got inspired by my classmates, and achieved a goal I had set for myself so long ago.

My arms and legs will thank me later, and now I feel unstoppable! If you are looking for a fun workout to stay active, I highly recommend seeing if there’s a CorePower Yoga studio near you!

xoxo,

Alyssa
