Greek of the Week: Victoria Daniels

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

This week’s Greek of The Week is Victoria Daniels, a graduating senior Journalism major Leadership Studies minor from Raleigh, North Carolina. Let’s find out what makes this beautiful Spring 2017 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. so special!

HC: What is your favorite memory from Hampton University?

VC: My favorite memory would be freshman year as a whole. I lived the life with my friends and bigs every weekend. I was meeting new people and beginning to blaze my trail at Hampton. Everything was so carefree and I had zero stress. Those were the days…

HC: Who is your favorite singer/artists and why?

VC: This is a hard question! I listen to a lot of music and honestly have so many favorites. Erykah Badu would be my number one. Her live album is my favorite because you can hear the soul dripping from her voice with her sultry vibe in every note and breath. Her songs also give important life lessons and relatable feelings for black women.

HC: What inspires you to keep striving for your goals?

VC: The thought of seeing my parents proud and being able to exceed their achievements pushes me to keep striving for my goals. Honestly, I tear up every time my mother says she is proud of me. What also keeps me going is knowing that one day all of my hard work will pay off.

HC: When did you join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.?

VC: I am a proud Spring 2017 Initiate into the Gamma Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I joined this amazing sisterhood during my sophomore year. I currently serve as the Historian and Journalist for the chapter.

HC: What has been your favorite part about being in a sorority?

VD: My favorite part of the sorority is definitely the bond made between my line sisters and big sisters. As an only child, I always wanted a sister or other companions. Gaining 49 line sisters was an incredible experience. Not only have these women taught me about life, but they’ve taught me how to be a better Victoria. Sisterhood is never easy, but it’s always worth it.

HC: What are your short and long term goals?

VD: My short term goals are becoming an alumna of Hampton University and getting a job (say a prayer for me yall!). My long term goals include having my own office marked “Editor in Chief” at Essence or Teen Vogue magazine.

HC: What are some of your pet peeves?

VD: My pet peeves are bad hygiene, smacking, and when people complain with no solution.

HC: If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

VD: If I could meet anyone in the world it would be Gabrielle Union. Not only because we favor, but because she is an incredible woman with an even better story. I highly encourage everyone to read her book. I personally connected with her childhood stories about growing up around a lot of white kids and figuring out how to get in touch with her black side. Her resilience through life is admirable after dealing with sexual assault, failed relationships, and miscarriages. Shout out to sis on her new baby girl! I stan!!!

HC: What is something or someone you couldn’t live without?

VD: I can’t live without sushi. I get sushi once a week or whenever my time and wallet permits. A good spicy tuna roll makes all my stress and anxiety go away. Sushi is the answer! Oh, and a cold glass of Pinot Grigio.

HC: If you could give your younger self any advice, what would it be?

VD: I would tell my younger self to savor every moment of life and never rush to be in another position.
