Glow Up Tips for 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

As the New Year slowly approaches and everyone is getting their resolutions together, it’s time for you to do the same. You have to glow up some day, and why not glow up year round! So here are a few tips that will help your glow fully commence in 2016.

Network

During your college years, don’t be a bump on a log. Be an adventurous butterfly and get involved! You never know who you may run into—it could be a president, chemist, or even your future family doctor. Also when networking, you could land possible internships or jobs and there are certain clubs/organizations that will build your resume. So when you return in January, bust a move on it and be sure to get your name out there!

Say A Daily Quote

On BET’s “Being Mary Jane,” you always see a quote on the opening credits and sometimes Mary Jane would pull a post-it note with a quote off her headboard in the morning. Start doing this! It’s good for you, both mentally and spiritually. Say quotes like “You’re a diamond dear, they can’t break you,” or “You are capable of more than you know.” These quotes will help boost your self-confidence and even give you more positive spirits—because a positive mind equals a positive vibe.

Get Fit

Don’t be afraid to get a little sweaty in the New Year; remember it’s apart of the Glow Up. Find your favorite Instagram or YouTube exercise guru, and get to it! It’s going to take some time but keep the faith. Also, it’s around  90 days until spring break. So keep in mind how you want to look while you’re at the beach.

Start Saving Money

The Wu-Tang Clan once said “Cash rules everything around me.!” It’s true, we sometimes spend a lot of money on food, or things we don’t necessarily need. So think of something that you’ve always wanted to do or something you want as a gift for yourself. Start saving for it! Instead of buying that steak bowl from Chipotle, put that $7.50 in a box and hide it. So by December 2016 you’ll have enough for those big things you really want. Although it may not seem like it’s a lot, believe me-after 52 weeks it’ll add up!

So ladies, use these few tips to help you glow up in 2016. All you need to do is get a running start by thinking of what it is you want to do. You may want a trip to St. Croix, lose 70 pounds, or start to wearing makeup. Be sure to “Write it down on real paper with a real pencil. And watch real stuff get done – Erykah Badu.
