Fabulous Freshman: Kaylan T. Fox

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

This week’s Fabulous Freshman is Kaylan T. Fox. Kaylan is a first year Journalism Major from Atlanta, Georgia. She is the president of The Bigger’s Circle and a member of SEPAC. She loves traveling, having a good time, exploring, meeting new people, eating and writing in her journal. Read the rest of this article to find out more about this week’s Fab Freshman!

HC: What would you consider your style to be?

KTF: I don’t necessarily have a certain style, I just like what I like and if it looks good on me that’s the best part. My closet is versatile. I like colors and prints, but I also can wear something simple. I can wear everything. It depends on my hair and nails really!

HC: What is the first thing you notice when you meet a guy?

KTF: I look at a guy’s teeth and I like to look at their outfit. I also notice how he carries himself and see if he is intimidated easily by a real woman.

HC: What impacted your decision to attend Hampton University?

KTF: I first visited when my older cousin went here. I like the location of Hampton. I like the Home by the Sea and the journalism program here is really nice and they have a lot of connections.

HC: Are you in any organizations? If so, what are they and what do they do?

KTF: I am in The Bigger’s Circle and that is in the museum. It is basically just trying to connect and help the community and allowing college students to help their peers as well.

HC: Who is your biggest inspiration?

KTF: My biggest inspiration definitely has to be Oprah and Ellen because they have beaten the odds. Oprah is a black woman who is a billionaire and Ellen has the highest rating talk show out right now and she is a lesbian. I definitely look up to them and they also give so much back to the community. Love it!

HC: What advice would you give to girls who are on their way to Hampton University?

KTF: I would say you need to learn how to focus on your school work, but don’t focus too much on your school work to the point that you can’t have fun because you need a balance of both. And do not be wild just to fit in because you will hinder your reputation. You’re not supposed to care about how people feel about you, but you do not want to give yourself a bad look because this campus is not as big as it seems.

HC: What made you choose your major?

KTF: I love writing so much. It’s like my passion. I’ve always had a journal since I was a little girl, but I also realized I also like talking and being in front of people. I love talking to people. It’s just very endearing to me.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KTF: In 10 years, I’m not sure where I’m going to be, but I really want to just secure my bag. I just want to be successful, not only for myself but for my family. I want to make my family proud and make myself proud and also give back to my community and everyone across the world.

HC: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?

KTF: I like traveling a lot, but I would say my top choice would have to be Australia only because that’s one of the places I’ve never been. Australia is just hot and they have so many different foods and I love to eat so I would be so excited to try what they have there.

HC: How would you describe your personality?

KTF: My personality is very goofy and charismatic. I just like telling jokes, having fun, going on adventures … I’m just an open person and ready for anything.

HC: With all of the #HUTOWNHALL issues, what makes you still proud to be a Hamptonian?

KTF: I’m excited about the change that is coming. I’m hoping the administration changes their ways and we can build from the problems that the town hall has brought to light and that alumnus will help us out because I know they really love their alma mater as well.

Thanks for reading, we hope you loved getting to know Kaylan just as much as we did!
