3 Ways to Balance virtual learning, social life, and YOU time from home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Being able to balance multiple things at one time is an important trait to have while being at home. During these past 6 months, we have all had to adjust to online learning and being stuck at home due to COVID-19. I have learned during this time how to properly manage my school work, my social life, and ME time, and I am going to share with you 3 ways to balance all your priorities and get everything done.

Have a calendar you use daily

The first step is having a calendar you use daily. Your calendar/ planner has to be something you look at everyday. It should go everywhere you go and you should look at it multiple times during the day. Your planner is where you are going to put important dates, events, times, and to-do items. A planner is important because it is where you track everything you have planned in the coming weeks. In my planner I write down my homework, important due dates, appointments I have scheduled for myself, and who I am seeing during the week. This keeps me on a schedule and never missing a beat. So, the first step is finding a planner and living by that planner. You have to be very disciplined with your planner and make it a priority.

Dedicating a day to yourself every week

The second step is dedicating a day to yourself every week. Every week I make sure to plan just one day dedicated to myself. I call these days “my self care day” and I look forward to them every week. My self-care days keep me balanced and feeling good for the entire week. It is very important to not get wrapped up in your week because that is when you start to stress, and stress can lead to underperformance or not getting everything done. So, taking time for just yourself is important to your mental health and your physical health. Your “self-care” days can be anything you like to do or anything that brings you energy.

Making time for your family and friends

The final step is making time for your family and friends. You do not want to get caught up in just yourself and forget about your friends. If you don’t focus on your social life, you will begin to isolate yourself and not even notice. So, always remember to make time for your friends and be social. Go out to dinner, go to a friends house, go on a vacation, etc. to still create memories even if you are at home, because you can still create memories during this time with the people you love.
