You’ve probably heard about Rumble Boxing by now, but if you haven’t, don’t worry,  I’ll tell you everything you need to know so you can decide if this workout class is for you.

What is Rumble?

Rumble is a 45 minute boxing-inspired group fitness class. There are ten rounds in which the instructor will guide and motivate you as you switch between boxing and the floor. Five minutes before every class there is an optional warm-up in which the instructor goes over the six punches you’ll need to learn: jab, cross, front and back hook, and front and back uppercut. Each part of the workout is projected on the wall of the front of the class, so you’ll always know what you should be doing. On the floor you will be doing everything from bicep curls, to squats, and burpees. The room is dark, the music is loud, and everyone is focusing on themselves. While it may be intimidating to try a new workout, everyone is concentrating on their on form and technique.

Do I need to have any boxing experience to sign up?

No, whether you have zero experience or you are pro boxer, you can take this class. Rumble was designed so that regardless of what level you are at, you’re able to effectively complete the workout.

Where is it located and how much is a class?

Rumble DC is located at 2001 M St NW Suite 120, Washington, DC 20036, and is open 7 days a week with classes starting as early as 5am and finishing as late as 8:30pm. Depending upon where your living on campus, the walk to Rumble is around 10-15 minutes. One class is $34, but if you purchase a 5 pack, 10 pack or more, the price of the classes will slightly decrease. Keep in mind that whichever package you purchase comes with an expiration date, so make sure to go before you lose your money’s worth.

What to do the first time you arrive?

You will want to arrive at least 15 minutes before class starts to check-in and put all your belongings in the locker. There are three things you need at Rumble: boxing gloves, wraps and water. While it would be nice if these items were provided to you for free, you’re able to purchase whatever you need at the front desk. Wraps are $8, and then they are yours to keep, gloves are $3 to rent, and a bottle of water is $3. I recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, and buying your own pair of gloves if you don’t want to rent every time.

Is the workout effective?

Let’s just say I leave Rumble very sweaty. So, yes, Rumble will definitely kick your butt, and leave you feeling accomplished. Although your arms are your primary focus while on the bag side, the instructor encourages you to maintain a boxer bounce, which keeps your whole body moving. On the floor side your arms, abs, legs, and glutes are all targeted, so you’re working out pretty much every muscle group during class. Not only is it an amazing workout, but it’s also a great stress reliever. If you’re looking for a fun, high-energy, effective workout you should definitely give Rumble a try!
