Places to go in Atlanta on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

The Valentine’s Day countdown is winding down and love is running wild in the streets of Atlanta. There are so many exciting places in the city that are perfect for couples—or singles—on the day of love. Here are some date suggestions and some of Atlanta’s most popular attractions. Follow the link underneath each photo to find more information!

1. Poor Calvin’s

Price Range: $25-$50 per meal. The total for two meals could be anywhere between $60 to $100, depending on what you order. It’s not hard to stay within a budget here.

Location: 510 Piedmont Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308

Advice: This Thai-Chinese-Southern fusion restaurant is a nice, dim-lit venue. A couple of flavorful dinner options are the lobster fried rice or crispy beef. Look presentable, but nothing too formal. The setting is cozy and warm, so keep the conversation smooth and inviting. For fun after a great meal, visit Skyview Atlanta (featured below).

2. The Georgia Aquarium

THIS EVENT IS 21+.

Price Range: $29-$49 per ticket. General admission tickets include entry only. VIP tickets include entry, two drink vouchers, and two tapas vouchers per ticket. I recommend calling to ask if sharing vouchers is allowed. If so, buy one VIP ticket and one General Admission ticket to have fun on a budget.

Location: 225 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30313

Advice: Go for semi-formal attire, but no high heels. This event includes touring the aquarium at your leisure. Visit the penguin exhibit and go through the crawl space to get a closer look!

3. Skyview Atlanta

Price Range: $13-$15 per ticket. The Information Desk in Student Center East has tickets available for GSU students. If you can’t make it to SCE, student tickets are sold onsite for a discounted price. Skyview Atlanta also offers a military discount.

Location:  168 Luckie St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30303

Advice: Visit before or after a nice meal since there’s not much time to spend here. Go at night for the breathtaking aerial view of downtown. Be as fancy or casual as you want.

4. The High Museum

Source

Price Range: Free-$15 per ticket. The High Museum offers free admission for those in the military and one guest. This offer includes dependents of military personnel. The first Friday of every month guarantees free admission for Bank of America cardholders. The second Sunday of each month is another opportunity for free admission from noon until 5 p.m. Visits on other occasions are priced at $15.

Location: 1280 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30309

Advice: Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk around the architecturally amazing building; the facility is a work of art itself. Tickets for the Infinity Mirrors Exhibit by Yayoi Kusama are sold out for Valentine’s Day, but her other art is on display in the museum. Due to its wild popularity, the Infinity Lights Exhibit is difficult to see without an advance ticket. One hundred tickets are sold onsite each day, ending the week before the final week of the exhibit, but lines outside the museum form at around 7 a.m. for those hoping to get a glimpse of the illuminating experience.

5. Fellini’s PizzaSource

Price Range: Varies. Fellini’s Pizza is a cozy neighborhood pizzeria offering slices starting at $2.75 and additional toppings at 50 cents each. Whole pies start at $13 for a medium and prices increase depending pizza size and toppings. Fellini’s also has a selection of locally produced beers as well as more mainstream brands.

Location: 909 Ponce De Leon Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30306

Advice: DO NOT JUST ORDER A CHEESE PIZZA! This place is a pizza lover’s heaven, so to only order a cheese pizza would be a great disservice to the experience. Load a slice with fruits, veggies, meats, and the deepest, wildest pizza toppings that exist. Order a house salad to share with balsamic vinaigrette. If the weather permits, sit outside near the fountain and enjoy the lights during a calm Valentine’s Day sunset.

With suggestions like these, it’s impossible to be stuck in a rut over V-Day plans. If anything, it’s more reasonable to be torn between two ideas in a city that has so much to offer. Don’t be shy; these places are just as fun for one and on days that celebrate life, like any day of the week.

This is my first year writing for Her Campus, so have fun watching me grow! I love to read and I try to exercise as much as possible, so feel free to give me suggestions on either. If you want to talk about my article in a more personal setting, I'm open to dialogue in my email. See you back soon! - Kayla
