Even though we are going through a pandemic, the school year must go on. For many of us, our new normal consists of attending classes and completing assignments through online learning. From communicating with our fellow classmates and teachers to fighting procrastination to get our assignments done on time, it can be difficult to adjust to distance learning.

However, have no fear! There are ways for us to adjust to online learning without struggling to maintain that good GPA. In fact, here are four ways to excel while distant learning.

1. Create a Schedule

Even though your surroundings may be different, it is still college all the same. It is important to make sure you are putting in the adequate amount of time into your classes each week. Create a set time during the week for schoolwork to be completed. While studying, make sure you are not succumbing to the distractions of group texts and social media. To do so, keep your phone at a distance from your workstation and incorporate breaks between tasks.

2. Time Management is Key

Once you create your schedule, it is important that you stick to it. If you are completing a full course load from home, it is important to treat your study time as if you were in an actual classroom. Utilize that time for completing tasks.

3. Create a Study Group

Trust me, you are not the only one in need of support! Take the time to get to know your classmates so you can all succeed this semester. Create a GroupMe with your peers or schedule Zoom study sessions to stay connected.

4. Don’t Forget to Relax!

As great as it may be to study and work hard, you must be able to rest at some point. Working without time to rejuvenate will only deter you from the amazing progress you are making in your studies. By staying organized in your schedule, make sure to squeeze in ‘me time’, whether that involves activities like going on a run, taking a nap, or even talking to a friend about non-school related things. Give yourself a break so you can continue to do well in your studies.
