Glossier is a skin care and makeup brand that seems to have gained a cult following in a short amount of time. You can’t go on any social media platform and not see a Glossier advertisement. The brand’s motto, “skin first, makeup second,” lead me to think that the brand must have had an amazing skincare line. After all, my mother always said that having a good skincare routine was just as important as the makeup you wore. I decided to invest when I saw a video review that Jackie Aina published for their makeup line. I always thought this brand was geared toward white millennial women and had grown animosity towards it. The fact of the matter is that very few skin care or makeup brands market toward people of color.
I began my Glossier journey with the Milk Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moisturizer and Exfoliating Skin Perfector. As a full-time college student on a budget, the prices did make me raise my eyebrows. Still, I wanted to see what all the hype was about and see if my skin would improve. I scrolled through their Instagram at least a thousand times a day and manifested the “Glossier please make my skin all glowy and beautiful” energy.
You see, at the beginning of the semester I had what the girls like to call, “a skin crisis.” I had dark spots and hyperpigmentation as the side effects of my birth control implant. I was discouraged about the state of my skin and desperate to try anything. Within the first two weeks of using these products, I noticed a huge difference because my skin became dewy, soft and even glowing. I personally suffer from eczema and psoriasis so mostly all skin care brands that I’ve tried in the past have irritated and dried out my skin. So, what excited me the most was that none of Glossier’s products inflamed my skin. I decided to add two more Glossier products to my normal routine, and I bought The Super Duo face serums.
I can honestly say that after two months of using my Glossier skin routine, this brand is revolutionary and worth the money and time. I rate Glossier skin care 5/5 because it improved the areas I had problems with and turned me into the glowing queen I already knew I was.
