Meet Charity Sims

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

Name: Charity Sims

Year: Senior

Major: Speech

Hometown: Atlanta, Ga

Activities: Finding new ways to maintain my happy

Relationship Status: Single

What do you plan to do with your major?

“I plan on growing How To Be Happyer into a movement. I’m not trying to make people be happy 24/7, 365- that’s not logical or healthy, I just want this to be a platform where people can find different resources from different cultures, cities, ages, and etc. on making better and happyer decisions for themselves. Also, I would love to diversify Cosmopolitan. Black women read Cosmo too!”

Are you involved on campus?

“Yes, I am the Managing Editor for the Georgia State University chapter of Her Campus! This past semester, I was on the Public Relations committee of Infinite Appeal and I previously served as Vice President of the Georgia State University chapter of NAACP. However, I’m not as involved as I want to be. I’m trying to be super involved like Jovan; after interviewing him, I realized how bad I need to work on my time management skills.”

What do you like to do when you’re not at school or studying?

“I love playing around on Adobe Photoshop, making different graphics is a great stress reliever for me. I also like to practice my coding skills, I cringe at the thought of paying $500+ for a custom website when I know I’m more than capable of making one myself! I’m always thinking of new posts and initiatives for How To Be Happyer, so jotting down potential blog posts, researching events in Atlanta, and finding different ways to incorporate marigolds is an everyday thing. Oh, and I’m probably at Topman working.”

What is your dream job?

“Getting paid to travel and write about my experiences. I’m just trying to see what God created.”

Who or what inspires you?

“I get inspiration from everybody working towards a better future. I can be in a slump and scroll on IG and see someone making sh*t happen and my whole mood will change into grind mode. I absolutely love “rags to riches” stories!”

How would your friends describe you?

“A ball of sunshine! I’m literally always smiling and laughing.”

What does your dream vacation consist of?

“Tequila and Santorini, Greece. Hopefully for my 23rd birthday I can make this happen, fingers crossed.”

Who is your celebrity crush?

“I have crushes; Dom Kennedy, Big Sean, and Robert Downey Jr.”

What are your turnoffs for dating or relationships?

“Liars. We may be young, but time is not something that needs to be wasted. Keep it “100” from the start and we’ll be fine.”

What is your favorite quote?

“It’s actually a scripture. Romans 8:18 – For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. This scripture has gotten me through a lot of down times. It just lets me know my kingdom is waiting for me, I just have to push through and keep faith in my God.”
