Keeping Up With Homecoming 2018 at GSU

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! It’s that time of year again. It’s Georgia State’s Homecoming week, the best week out of the school year! Once a Panther, you’re always a Panther. Celebrate good times and come on! Charge your phones. Dress to impress (Don’t forget a light jacket, it’s suppose to be a little chilly outside). Grab some money (unless its a freebie) and your I.D. You can’t afford to miss any of the activities and opportunities Georgia State has planned for you!

Day of Service 

Do you enjoy volunteering and being involved with the Atlanta community? Hosted by Spotlight and Civic Engagement, give back and come out with other students, faculty, and staff for the first ever Homecoming Day of Service on October 21 starting in the Student Center East Ballroom at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Sign up today individually or with a group. Got Talent?

Do you have talent? Don’t be shy. Take center stage and share your talent at Georgia State. Watch other students and alumni share the stage as well. Grab your panther ID and bring one guest (to accommodate seating). The event is Wednesday, October 24 at 7 pm in the Student Center East Ballroom. Did I mention it’s free for students? Find out if there’s a grand prize!

Early Voting Food 

Vote Together presents Early Voting Breakfast on Monday, October 22 in Student Center East room 300 at 9 am sharp. The Early Voting Carnival will be in Hurt Park at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24. Did I forget to mention the games and prizes? It doesn’t get any better! Get the free food, enjoy the games, win a prize, and don’t forget to vote now until November 6. 

Freebies and Tabling in Plaza

Throughout the week, several organizations with have freebies and food while tabling in plaza. Heads up! The National Society of Collegiate Scholars are tabling in plaza on October 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with pink lemonade and iced donuts for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to continue bringing awareness for breast cancer. Support the cause and donate for only $1. 

Party, Party, Party!

You should already know that the hottest parties and club scenes are in Atlanta. How do you want to celebrate is up to you! Go to a friend’s house party for a more intimate setting and if you’re on a tight budget (should be free). Visit a lounge with your girls and enjoy your food with nice music to go with it in the background. If you want to turn all the way up with your favorite DJ, visit the hottest clubs in Atlanta. Every year, there’s usually two or three after parties specifically for Georgia State students happening on Saturday night. Check out twitter, eventbrite, or instagram to find out which party will have you lit. 

Rialto Series: Ailey Edition

Have passion for dance or music? The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater presents Ailey II: The Next Generation of Dance on Saturday, October 20 at 8 p.m. at the Rialto Center for the Arts. The student discounted tickets are only $5. Whoa. Did you get your ticket yet? I already have mine and I’m so excited. You should be too! 

Good Morning Georgia State 

Wake up on October 22, come out to unity plaza and grab breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Yes, it’s free. All you have to do is show your Georgia State I.D. Enjoy cultural creations from around the U.S while basking in local art created by fellow and local art museums. There will be treats, games, and a chance to meet your Homecoming royal court candidates!

Homecoming Spirit Plaza

October 23 at 12 p.m. in Unity plaza, meet your Homecoming candidates for 2018! Celebrate with fellow panthers and continue enjoying Homecoming week. Don’t miss out on free food, prizes, and an opportunity to network a meet with other organizations or employers hosted by Career Services in library plaza. 

Georgia State Royal Ball

On Thursday, October 25 at 8 p.m., come to the Georgia Freight Depot and dance the night away with other Panthers. Every year there’s a theme and this year it’s Cirque du Soleil! Enjoy delicious food and create memories that will last a lifetime. Georgia State Block Party!

There’s a block party in Hurt Park. Enjoy a night of fun, food and great music. This year’s block party will have interactive activities, free giveaways and more that you don’t want to miss. It’s free admission for Georgia State students with a Panther ID. Students are also welcomed to bring a guest. The event takes place on Friday, October 26 at 7 p.m. 

Football game, Royal Court Crowning, Tailgate, and Parade all in ONE DAY!

On October 27, take the shuttle with your friends and come to the Georgia State Stadium for free food, giveaways, entertainment, and so much more! The football game, royal court crowning, parade, and the tailgates hosted by various organizations are all on the same day! You already know it’s gonna be lit, especially since almost everything is free. Purchase your tickets for the game today! 

Remember, homecoming is for current students and alumni to connect and celebrate with the community and their love for the university. Don’t miss out on the food, entertainment, fun, and networking opportunities. Get in the spirit and don’t forget to show off your Panther pride! She holds an executive position as the Public Relations and Recruitment Chair for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at GSU.
