Her Campus: What do you have planned for HCGSU semester?

Shamia Dawson: As HCGSU’s fundraising coordinator, we have a few percentage nights that are being planned, community service, a fundraiser incorporating Valentine’s Day, and a St. Patrick’s themed sale.

HC: What else are you looking forward to doing this semester?

SD: I’m looking forward to continuing my observation hours in Occupational Therapy since that’s my career goal, prepping myself for taking the GRE, and joining a few more organizations on campus before I GRADUATE!! YAY! Also, doing some more work in the film industry here in Atlanta.

HC: How has your role in HCGSU shaped you as a college student?

SD: I can honestly say that HCGSU has made me more of a “go-getter”. I never imagined myself being as active on campus considering that I’m a transfer student and I wasn’t active at all at my previous school. HCGSU persuaded me to attend different events on campus, host my own events dealing with fundraising, and joining other organizations on campus. This organization was the perfect start for me to actually step outside of my comfort zone and sprout into an active student on campus.

HC: What do you hope to see for the HCGSU website this semester?

SD: Hopefully, I will see more unique topics about different events going on in the Atlanta area for GSU students to attend along with more event coverage and feedback from participants. It helps to spread the word of future events and to network during your college years.

HC: What goals did you set for yourself for 2016?

SD: I decided to follow the trend #shootyourshot2k16 which means to just go for it and to not hesitate at pursing my goals for 2016. Also, I set a goal with a few of my HC friends to commit to working out MWF and having that Spring Break body in full affect.

HC: If your friends were to describe you, what 3 words would they use?

SD: Ambitious, Appreciative, Caring

HC: What’s your future career goals?

SD: I want to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy and travel around the world in this profession. Surprisingly during my observation hours, I found enjoyment around the elderly in a nursing home and I just fell in love with the wisdom and bringing laughs to the environment. I know for fact that I would want to work around that age group sometime during my career.

HC: What makes you happy?

SD: Being around family and real friends, pay days, and changing someone’s life!

HC: When you face obstacles and trials, what gets you through it?

SD: Relaxing, breathing techniques, and having a moment with God can get me through anything whether it’s with school, my relationship, or even trying to get into those pair of jeans that you JUST CAN NOT let go!

HC: What would you have done with that 1.3 billion dollar jackpot had you won?

SD: Oh my, first and foremost I would definitely give half of the money to my whole family. I would pay for the rest of my schooling, invest in a top company, give back to the community, and save the rest for my future family.
