Her Campus GSU: Why did you decide to come to Georgia State?

I decided Georgia State because I wanted to be in the city and it just so happened Atlanta was the closest city. When I went to get a tour I just noticed that everything wasn’t closed off and people were around me. I knew I was going to get a diverse student population and interact with diverse students and also learn a lot from the city around me. I felt like I wanted to get away from home but not too far, so it was great being able to live on my own.

HC: What made you into the person you are today?

I’m pretty sure my mom. She’s a huge aspect in who I am today and why I am the way I am. I’m Haitian so my background and culture is very important to me. Where I come from respect, how you carry yourself and how you treat others is a big deal. So my family and culture really made me who I am today.

HC: What has been your biggest challenge in college?

Dealing with stress is the biggest challenge because it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s either family, friend, Greek life, organization or financial stress going on and college will either make or break you. It’ll really teach you how you operate and how to deal with stress. You also learn who you are, definitely which is also stressful.

HC: What’s your ultimate goal in life?

My ultimate goal in life is to have my own chain of speech clinics. I want to be a Speech Language Pathologist and have a foundation attached to my businesses so that kids that can’t afford speech therapy can access it through my clincs. It’s not really discussed how important it is to intervene from a young age. The younger you are, the more important your communication skills are so I really want to make sure I create something where I can give back to the community. I want to make sure that kids get what they need so that we can have more successful monoritities out in the world.

HC: What impact has your campus involvement made on you?

I’ve grown a lot through campus involvement. I think getting invovled my freshman year was a pivotal moment. I got to meet new people, I became comfortable in the environment I was in. Being involved really connected me with students on campus and the school. It also forces you to learn time management so it helped me academically, socially and it helped me help others. Each thing I’ve been involved in has brought me happiness in a different way and really has had a huge impact on my college experience. I believe 1913 Society refined me in a way where I was able to talk to everyday. Incept made me more bubbly, I was always bubbly but it helped take away some of my shyness. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., is deep deep in my heart so beyond GSU it’s carried with me for the rest of my life and it’s connected me with my sisters that i’ll have forever. So I think each thing that I’ve chose to be apart of has impacted me significantly and differently from personally, to professionally to academically.

HC: What’s something about you that nobody knows?

I’ve always wanted to be a mermaid. I actually have a a tattoo of a seashell because I love the beach, I love the ocean. My grandma used to tell me a story growing up, it’s a Haitian story about a young girl who walked the beach with her family and she’s separated and she basically doesn’t know what to do, and no one who walks by her is helping her so she prays. Then she starts looking for seashells because it’s something she always did with her family. She picks up one that she puts to her ear and it starts directing her on where to go to find her family so that’s important to me. So it makes me think about guidance and also to make sure that you pray so that you could find that seashell so that you know what to do.
