I get it, social media is fun and a great escape from reality when you’re not overdoing it— the issues come when you are. If you’re one of those people who feels like you may be a bit too invested in your social media, check out these signs and see if they apply to you.

The Little Green Monster

If every time you scroll through your timeline you feel like you’re missing out on the experiences that someone else is having in their life, it’s a sign. Social media makes it easy to look like everyone has it all together. Remember that that is not the case! Many of us only believe in showing the best, most positive parts of ourselves so being jealous of someone who is going through struggles that you have no idea about doesn’t benefit you in any way. Other people’s positive posts shouldn’t bring you down.

TMI Posts

Do you post about literally every aspect of your life on social media? If you answered yes, that is a problem. Gen Z is very tech-savvy, but our downfall comes when we can’t do anything without posting. Taking a shower, going to the bathroom, studying, eating, and most dangerously DRIVING while trying to make a post are habits that need to be broken. Not only this, but a lot of us don’t want to know everything you have going on. Sometimes the truth hurts!

#Relationship Goals

Social media shouldn’t have a huge impact on your romantic life. I’m not saying that if you find your s/o liking another girl’s picture that you shouldn’t get mad. What I’m saying is that if you’re comparing your relationship to other couple’s based on what they’re posting such as where they’re going on dates, their flirty text message threads, and cute stories they post on IG, maybe you’re more invested in that couple’s relationship than your own. Admiring other couples is fine; Micheal B. Jordan and Lori Harvey’s social media posts are the sweetest, but their relationship is their relationship and shouldn’t have an impact on yours.

If you do these three things, maybe you should consider a brief social media cleanse. Social media shouldn’t be stressful, it should be fun! These are just a few things to think about the next time you’re scrolling through your timeline.
