My Go-To Date Night Restaurants, Something for Everyone

Being in a relationship is great, but sometimes we all run out of ideas of where to go next. My boyfriend and I love trying new restaurants and these are some of my favourites! Because they’re in and around Glasgow city centre they are all super easily accessible via public transport and there’s a little something for every budget.

Ardnamurchan ÂŁÂŁÂŁ

Ardnamurchan is a Scottish restaurant and I cannot sing their praises enough to be honest. Due to it being more upscale it’s one to save for an anniversary or another special occasion. You can’t go wrong with anything you order; drinks or food, although their amaretto sour is one of the best in the city. My favourite plate is the venison stew, but they’ve got something for everyone with a variety of vegan and fish options. It’s a nice atmosphere but definitely the type of restaurant you need to book in advance.

The Last Bookstore ÂŁÂŁÂŁ

Maybe it’s just me but I have seen them all over my social media lately. I know from personal experience that it’s great for a casual but still upscale place to get to know people better (my boyfriend met my dad there). With stunning floor to ceiling bookshelves, a book arch, and cocktails with literary icons as their names you forget you’re in the city centre at all. They serve small plates and have delicious desserts as well, so definitely not one to miss- but be careful as the prices can sneak up on you!

Thundercat – not Thunderdog ÂŁÂŁ

Thundercat is a cool underground restaurant with some great mac and cheese to satisfy your cravings. Much like Thunderdog in the west end it is diner inspired, but what makes Thundercat so much better in my opinion is the speakeasy vibe. Their portions are massive so beware when ordering. They’ve got a variety of drinks, and although their menu isn’t massive you should always watch for their monthly specials. Great option if you want something nice but cant be bothered to dress up.

Poko Loko ÂŁÂŁ

Poko Loko is in the heart of Merchant City, and it is so stunningly cozy inside it’s perfect for lunch or dinner. With a proper Mexican chef you know the food is absolutely delicious. My personal favourite is the pulled beef quesadillas. Although it’s a sit down restaurant, it’s also a great place to just grab some snacks and drinks. Be sure to check out their frozen margarita flight to decide your favourite!

Shawarma King ÂŁ

Although not a sit down restaurant like the others, it’s so good I can’t leave it off the list. Maybe not the best for a birthday celebration, but it is great for those who want something quick. A go-to if you’re looking to satisfy a quick craving, want to go on a walk or picnic at Glasgow Green or you’re just out and about (although they are probably best consumed after a night out). Personally, I would always recommend a mixed wrap size regular, not large because it can be a lot of food. Don’t forget to visit their neighbors Doh for a sweet treat after!

Whether you can’t decide on where to go or you just need a new place to visit, these are all great options personally curated throughout my relationship!
