It’s that stressful time of year again. It’s not midterms. And it’s not finals. But! It is the next busiest time of the semester. It’s when every big project that is not part of a final is due. Here are a few songs that for one reason or another help make this time more manageable:

1. “I Go To Extremes” by Billy Joel

Seriously, this song gets me. I don’t know how but Billy Joel manages to get one of my biggest struggles into a catchy tune that keep me going through those extremes, but he does.

2. “Anybody Have a Map?” from Dear Even Hansen

I know that this song doesn’t seem to have much to do with the feelings that are being expressed, but I would like to point to these lyrics: “Does anybody have a map? Anybody maybe happen to know how the hell to do this? I don’t know if you can tell but this is me just pretending to know.”

3. “16 Tons” by Johnny Cash

Mix it up a bit with this classic. Uhg! Just listen to all that grit. This is the perfect song for when you’re deep into that essay and need something as focused and tensed as you are. The best thing is that this song has just the right amount of mellow to it to keep you calm.

4. “S.O.B.” by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Ok. This song is the one you listen to on repeat during those all nighters. It has a bit of the same feeling as the last song except it’s far angrier and gives off an even more determined vibe. It’s perfect because the anger fuels you and keeps you working while the determination helps you keep your resolve!

5. Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” sung by Taron Egerton

Seriously, this song is just so supportive! It somehow just gives you all the strength you need to keep going for those next few hours. It’s just the right mix of supportive and confident and celebratory.

Remember to take some time for yourself when you can and go be the best you you can be! And, finally, in case you still need a little extra somethin’, check out “Set it All Free” by Scarlet Johansson.
