Do you ever have so much work that you decide to lay on the floor for a very long time? You’ve heard the motivational argument that “your pain is temporary while your GPA is eternal.” However, with some effort, I firmly believe that all of us can reduce this pain—it’s as easy as 1-2-3!
1. SLEEP WHEN NECESSARY
Become acquainted with the “fifteen minute nap.” Throughout the day, take strolls across campus, eat well, and don’t forget about your bed! There is nothing wrong with working in intervals, sleeping for a while, and then returning for work. If you’re overtired, there’s a huge chance that you aren’t performing as well as you could be and if you’re studying you may be wasting time because your brain isn’t fueled properly. Furthermore, make an effort to work in daylight so that you can return to your dorm before dawn.
2. TREAT YOURSELF
Master of None, Friends, and Gilmore Girls are calling your name…but you have work! In order to motivate yourself, pick out episodes from your favorite shows or even movies to watch whenever you accomplish a milestone in your work! Take off your thinking caps and let your mind breathe a little. Also- don’t forget the healing power of music. Kicking back to your favorite Spotify playlist is an effective way to pamper yourself as well in between assignments.
3. HELP EACH OTHER OUT
Round up your pals and turn a late night into a study party! My friends and I are currently all together in a classroom. Keep each other on track, play some Mozart into the room, and be open to helping everyone involved out. This is particularly great if you’re writing papers—dictate your thoughts to the room to help yourself to organize. Also, offer guidance in your best subjects to those who are struggling. Make sure you’re doing your own work—but do that individual stuff as a team to keep the night tear free!
