This SGA Saturday Her Campus recognizes Senior Dantrell Mayweather, an esteemed member of the organization. Majoring in history and minoring in military science, Mayweather is also a member of ROTC, and the National Guard Detachment Unit here at Georgia Southern.
In his brief year as a member of SGA, Mayweather has managed to create an entire new board member position entitled Vice President of Military Affairs which he currently holds. His passion for the military is what drove him to become a member of the organization.
“We’ve got somewhere around like 30,000 students on this campus and like 5,000 have something to do with the military but we had no representation in SGA,” Mayweather said. “SGA is supposed to encompass all students all students, it’s a student government association not just traditional student government association,” he continued.
Mayweather plans on pursuing his passion for the military even further by becoming a military commissioner after graduating.Outside of his school involvement, he also enjoys playing basketball, working out, and even does a radio show called Tuesdays with Trell.
It is no doubt that Mayweather will accomplish and do great things within his community. When asked about his most valuable lesson from his time at Southern he replied,
“I’ve learned the value of hardwork. Nothing is handed to you… it’s all about the grind.”
