Finals are almost here! What do I do?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Brace yourselves, finals are right around the corner. I know you’re stressed out with all of the studying that you are going to have to do, or maybe you did not study at all, and you’re cramming at the last minute. Whatever the case may be, here are a few tips to help you get through your finals for the semester.

1) Get lots of rest

Getting your rest will have you refreshed and ready to work! You can’t concentrate on your finals without sleep, you will probably be too busy thinking about sleep instead of studying.

2) Do NOT cram

Very few people get by with cramming for a final, but you do not want to take that risk. Cramming is least effective when studying for finals. People most often remember the first and last thing from an extended study session, meaning you should study throughout the year and not a month before your finals.

3) Limit distractions

When studying make sure you go to a quiet place where you can concentrate. Turn the TV off and anything that will distract you while studying.

4) Study in burst

Don’t try to study one subject all in one day. Break it down and read each chapter and take notes as you go. Trying to cram everything in during a study session can cause problems for your short term memory.

5) Manage your time

Managing your time will make things more easier for you. A perfect example would be studying for maybe 30 minutes each and taking a 10 minute break in between those study sessions.
