Hey ladies! I know we all want to get our bodies right for Spring Break. I also know that, if you’re anything like me, eating healthy and staying active can be a little difficult when you love food and your schedule seems to be packed. I’ve recently started being more mindful when it comes to my health so here are a few tips from me to help get you started on your fitness journey.

1. ALWAYS EAT YOUR BREAKFAST!

As cliche as it may sound, breakfast in most definitely the most important meal of your day. It supplies you with energy to kick off your day and also is very crucial to an active metabolism. We don’t even realize how much our body suffers from us skipping out on breakfast. It could be a little bowl of cereal or a big iHop meal, just make sure to start your day off with food.

2. You’re never too old for snacks.

I know a lot of the time for me, I get hungry throughout the day but I don’t feel hungry enough to sit and scarf down a full meal. This is where snacks come in handy. My mom would always tell me I was younger to make sure to eat small, in between meals to keep my metabolism working how it should. If you start adding snacks to your everyday menu then you will begin to notice a change in your eating habits. It’s almost like you’re training your body to eat on time and also getting in the habit of eating as frequently as you should. Some things that I noticed with adding snacks, like apple slices or yogurt and granola, is that I also feel more energized throughout the day. I don’t know about you but I’ll take that over feeling sluggish mid day.

3. Drink your water.

Water is so essential to a healthy lifestyle. It keeps you hydrated, first a foremost. I know that walking around these campuses with the sun beaming on you can be quite a challenge so keep water on you 24/7 to replenish your body as much as you need to. Water also aids in your digestive system and does wonders for the skin. If you feel good, you look good and that has been a proven fact for ages. To make sure you are drinking the appropriate amount of water everyday, try to get in the habit of carrying a bottle or two with you to class and keeping a water bottle next to your bed for the night.

4.  Let’s get active!

In college I know it’s very easy to get piled with work or organization related events but we have to try hard to keep our health in mind. Everyday we should be getting at least 30-60 minutes of exercise in. If you are a student taking on campus courses, something as simple as walking to class can be included your daily workout. Walking may not seem like much but I promise your body is thanking you. Another tip to incorporate your workout in your busy schedule is making use of those gaps in between classes. Yes, I know it is very tempting to squeeze a nap in when you catch an opportunity like that, but I promise you that going and getting active in the gym will feel much more rewarding to you. It will recharge your brain and energize you post workout and it may also improve your sleep later on when it’s finally time to lay it down. You don’t have to choose the treadmill over your bed every single time but you definitely want to try to work out at least 3 times out of the week. The quicker you start training your body, the easier it will be for you to find a routine that best fits you and go on from there. Here’s a workout routine that I have started recently:

Try customizing it and consider your own desires as far as personal gains go and commit.

Hope these are useful to get you one step closer to your body goals. Good luck!
