9 90s Inspired Styles to Wear Everyday This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Ahhhhhhh the 90s. Some will say it was the peak of fashion and pop culture, others might describe it as the worst decade of the 20th century, but you can’t deny it was a pinnacle of fashion. Pop culture from the 90s popularized flannel, high-waisted denim, bare midriffs, over-sized jackets, funky prints, and the list could on! Here are 9 styles inspired from the 90s that you can rock with in any outfit this fall!

  1. Turtleneck Sweaters

Yes, I know. You’re wondering how a turtleneck made it on this list, especially you left that style back in middle school. But turtle necks are not that bad! A cropped turtleneck sweater will give you an effortless look with classic style. Also, who doesn’t like a good sweater in the fall? Try pairing it with high-waisted jeans, or a suede skirt with boots and tights for a more refined look.

2. Funky Prints

These funky prints will bring life to your outfit! Perfect for any casual look, festivals, concerts, dates, and everyday life. Part of 90s fashion was being bold and expressing yourself through your clothes. Don’t be afraid and try it out with some new prints.

                                                                                                                               3. High-Waisted Denim

High-Waisted denim is great because it is so versatile. The denim can be paired with almost any 90s styled top and jacket. It also looks great on every body type.

5. Flannel

Remember when tying your jacket around your waisted was cool, then it was lame, but thanks to flannel it is cool again! Flannel is one of the perfect things to go with your fall outfits. The fabric is a little thicker, so it will keep you cozy. Plus, the pattern adds a great amount of color. I like to pair flannel with leggings and a t-shirt, but it also works perfectly with dresses.

                                                                                               6. Over-sized jackets/sweaters

Over-sized jackets and sweaters are great for the fall because they allow for more space in an outfit which will keep you cool, and make you look effortlessly cool. They come in so many styles and patterns you can pair them with about any outfit!

7. Chokers

Chokers are one of the most iconic styles to come from the 90s. They are also so versatile! They come in simple styles, layered, the tattoo style, and with little pendants. A necessity to complete any 90s-inspired look.

8. Classic Shoes- Vans/White Converse/Doc Martens

These classic shoes can add comfort to any 90s look. Many style the classic vans with funky printed socks. Converse are typical styled with high-waisted denim. And Doc Martens are perfect to complete a totally 90s grunge look.

9. Overalls

Overalls are one of my favorite things to come back from the 90s. Denim overalls are great for comfort and going throughout the day, while an overall dress is super cute. I like to pair the denim overalls with white converse and maximum comfort.
