1. It’s Ok to Have a Social Life.
I’m not gonna lie, I was the freshman that was cooped up in her room every Friday night watching Netflix. I was so scared of the transition from high school to college, that I thought partying and going out to have fun would just be completely detrimental to me keeping up with my school work. Come to find out, being cooped up like that will literally drive you insane. Go figure. I was so dead-set on getting straight A’s and I just knew I couldn’t do that and actually have a life at the same time, but boy was I wrong. Making plans and having fun stuff to do actually helps me be able to take my mind off of all the craziness that is college.
2. Get Involved!
I regret not joining any clubs and/or orgs my freshman year. I thought it would be way too much for me handle the transition and take on the responsibilities of being an org member at the same time. Orgs are great ways to meet new people, network and make a name for yourself on campus.
3. Girl, You Don’t Need All Those Clothes.
I think I brought about 95%, if not all, of the clothes from my closet at home last year. I wore the same 2 pairs of shoes and the same 5 outfits all year. I will say, it is imperative to bring a few articles of business attire for any professional orgs you might join, job interviews, and any other formal event.
4. Crying Is Completely Normal.
I’ve seen people cry in the middle of the café, pick themselves up and keep it pushing. College is fun, but definitely can be stressful and overwhelming at times. It’s ok to take time for yourself and get a mental break from everything.
5. BE YOU!
College is all about finding yourself. In order to do that, you’ve gotta do what makes you happy and live your own life. College is something that so many people think has to be done a certain way in a certain amount of time, but everyone is running their own race at a different pace. RUN YOUR OWN RACE! You’ll never get these 4 years (or more) back, so make them count!
