Minimalist Makeup Tips for the Girl Who Hates Makeup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Some girls love makeup, live by beauty gurus and can spend hours in Sephora. Other girls are overwhelmed anytime they find themselves in a makeup aisle. No need to fear, makeup doesn’t need to be daunting or time consuming. Here are some makeup tips for the girl that hates makeup but wants to feel extra glamorous.

Tip 1: Moisturize

Whether you are 18 or 80, you can never go wrong with moisturizers. It not only makes your skin smooth and soft, it gives you that fresh, wide awake look. Find a moisturizer with SPF in it to protect your skin. Your wrinkle-free future self will thank you.

Tip 2: Use tinted lip balm

This is a must if you want to add some color to your lips but don’t want the struggle of  the re-applying, smudging and cracking that comes with lipstick. This will give you a pop of color and keep your lips hydrated without all the extra work. If you’re feeling dry, consider using a lip scrub! These come in tints too!

Tip 3: Do a simple brow

Instagram is famous for the next crazy eyebrow trend or models with eyebrows that could cut glass, but don’t be fooled. You don’t need all that smoke and mirrors. A light fluff with an eyebrow brush and a hint of some eyebrow powder can give you a seamless, natural look to your brows while giving them shape that will bring out the rest of your face.

Tip 4: Mascara

Eyes can be the most daunting of a makeup routine, but they don’t have to be! A simple layer of mascara can do so much for your eyes and eyelashes without overwhelming your face. It’ll give your eyes just the pop they need with minimal time and effort.

Tip 5: Blush

Blush seems like an outdated concept or a nightmare forced onto your cheeks as a kid if you ever had dance recitals. Yet blush is one of our most underrated allies, a little color in your cheeks can brighten up your whole face.

Social media can lead you to believe that every makeup look has to be full face, but that isn’t the case. A minimal makeup look can be just as effective, so you “make-up challenged” girls can rejoice!
