Dear Baby Girl,

First, I want you to know that you are loved more than you can imagine. Not just loved by your parents, but by everyone around you who want the best for you. I promise to always be a shoulder to cry on and someone you can share secrets with. I’ll let you have ice cream for breakfast, even when your mother tells me we can’t. I promise to accept you for who you are and never pass judgment.

I want you to know that when you grow up, you can be anything you want to be! President, a lawyer, a teacher or anything you can dream of. Don’t ever let anyone tell you how to feel or what to think. You’re being born into a strong black family and I know you’ll be the strongest of all.

Anything that you will ever need, you just let us know and you’ve got it! This doesn’t mean you’ll be spoiled though, sugar. You will still have to work hard for anything you want, but I know you can do it.

I cannot promise that harm will never come your way, but I can tell you that I will do my best to protect you from anything I can. You don’t know it now, but I can feel that we will be the best of friends. I promise to always love you, even though you’ll be a Gemini with a strong attitude. I cannot wait to meet you in June.

You are smart, kind and important. Don’t you ever forget it.

Sincerely,

The Best Aunt EverPhotos courtesy of Angelica Walker
