I Wore The Same Sweater Every Day for a Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Whether the weather likes it or not, autumn is officially here! I am ringing in the new season with a wardrobe refresh – and no, it does not involve dropping $200 online shopping. I’m taking my go-to fall sweater (you know, the one you end up throwing on every day because you know it goes with everything) and wearing it five days straight. Between interning, studying, and going out, I’m going to turn a basic sweater into a fashion blogger’s dream.

I opted for a burgundy tight-knit pullover to wear during this week. It has a high boat-neck and a tighter fit around the waist and wrists. Overall, it’s super soft comfortable and is just thick enough to add some warmth for the chillier days in the fall. The color, thickness, and fit seemed to give off the look of transitioning in an autumn wardrobe.

Day 1 – Date Night

On the first day of the week, the weather was still pretty warm out. I had plans to go out to dinner and wanted to feel put together, but not overdressed. Instead of going for something basic on this hot day, I paired my sweater with a midi skirt and white sneakers to keep it casual. Since knitwear can be a bit baggy, I cinched my waist with a belt. This outfit allowed me to stay cool but still kept me looking polished for dinner.

Day 2 – Coffee with friends

For a more laid back day of lectures and coffee hangouts this Tuesday afternoon, I paired my sweater with a big orange and red striped scarf and some black knee-high boots. I wanted to keep my outfit super low key and this was a perfect choice.

Day 3 – Business Casual

I intern at an office twice a week during the semester, which means I am all too familiar with the ever-elusive ~business casual~ dress code. I typically go for something practical and professional, so slacks and flats were the perfect items to pair with my burgundy sweater. I tucked my top into my high-waisted pants, threw my hair up in a high ponytail and was ready for a long day at work.

Day 4 – Bonfire

On Thursday night, my friends and I decided to get together and sit by the fire, since the weather is getting pretty cold in the evening. I wanted to add an extra layer for warmth to my outfit, so I threw on an adorable black and white oversized shawl. This outfit was perfect for being bundled up but still comfortable.

Day 5 – Night Out

Finally, on Friday night, I decided to wear a deep burnt-orange miniskirt with tights and black heeled booties. This outfit screams fall and I am loving it. If you need to add a coat on top for a cold night on the town, try opting for a leather jacket or a bomber jacket.

At the end of the week, I realized that there really are endless ways to style your favorite autumn sweater this spooky season. So, when in doubt, throw it on and head out the door, collegiettes!
