This week’s campus celebrity is as sweet as it gets!  While talking with Lauren So, a junior at George Mason University, it was easy to understand why anyone and everyone instantly loves her.  The first time I met Lo, as her friends call her, was at my freshman orientation, while moping around because I didn’t know anyone.  She walked right up to me and complimented my shirt with a huge grin on her face.  Minutes after, a Nelly Furtado song came on the campus speakers and Lo started to sing along to all of the words.  I think that was the moment I knew Lo So would be one of the coolest people I would meet at George Mason.  With her bubbly, outgoing personality, Lauren So can immediately brighten any room and I hope you get a piece of that from her interview below!

Hometown: Chantilly, Virginia

Favorite music: I like rap and hip-hop the best. Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick, and most importantly Beyonce are all bae.

Favorite TV show: I love shows like Dexter, Lost, and Orange is the New Black. Also can’t help but love KUWTK (Keeping Up With the Kardashians).

Major: Community Health with a concentration in Health Education

What organizations are you a part of?

The summer before college I had an employee at my work who was in a sorority at GMU and introduced me to Greek Life. She told me it was an awesome way to get involved on campus, which appealed to me. I didn’t really know anyone from high school that was going to be at Mason, so I thought rushing would be the best choice for me. I found my home in Alpha Omicron Pi and it was the best decision I could have made as a freshman! I’ve also recently been chosen as the Sweetheart of Delta Chi, which was absolutely amazing.

What is it like being the Sweetheart of the Delta Chi Fraternity?

It’s really awesome being the sweetheart of Delta Chi! The boys are so much fun to be around and we have such a mutual respect for each other. I know that they’ll always have my back and they know I’ll always have theirs. My closest friends are in Delta Chi, so it really is an honor for me to be affiliated so closely with them.

Is it hard balancing your responsibilities with these two chapters along with your course work?

When I first joined AOII, it was a little tough for me personally to balance my sorority and academics because I wanted to be involved as much as I could, while trying to be a part-time student as well as work part-time.  Time management has always been a little bit of a struggle for me, but surprisingly it was AOII that eventually helped me to become better at it.  My sisters would give me tips on what I could do to improve and helped me study for classes and tests. I also do have a lot of responsibilities with Delta Chi now, but they are always in the library studying so it helps to have friends who motivate me to do the same.

What are your future goals?

My short-term goals are to find a good, paid internship and get on the Dean’s List this semester. My long-term goals are to find a stable job and live somewhere outside of Virginia. I’ve lived in Chantilly my entire life, so I really want to travel for a small amount of time after I graduate and just experience the new and wonderful things the world has to offer.

What do you love most about Mason?

The things I love most about Mason are all of the friendships I’ve made over the past few years and our campus’ diversity. I’ve met some of the most interesting people here, all from different parts of the world.
