6 Jewelry Essentials for Your Jewelry Box

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Accessories make the outfit, and jewelry has no boundaries. Jewelry gives you the ability to express yourself in means beyond clothes and pulls any outfit together.

Cultivating a jewelry collection is a fun (yet, sadly expensive) hobby of mine and over the last few years, I have come to realize the pieces that are essential for any collection. These are staple pieces that can add to any wardrobe to give outfits some extra shine and bling.

 Hoop Earrings

Hoops are THE classic accessory, an item that looks stunning on every person. Different sizes, colors and shapes flood the market, so the options are abundant to find one that fits your style. I personally like to have three sizes when it comes to hoops: small huggies for lowkey looks, medium hoops for everyday wear and chunky hoops as a statement piece when I want to spice things up. They undeniably complete any outfit and are the perfect first step in cultivating a timeless jewelry collection.

Stud Earrings

Studs are another earring essential for the more delicate looks. They are a jewelry necessity that adds a bit of shine and sparkle to any outfit. Diamonds and pearls are the timeless classics, but there are a multitude of simple everyday studs you could buy in sets and packs that suits your personality and style.

Coin Necklace

A coin necklace is one of my absolute favorite accessories. In terms of necklaces, I think that coin necklaces are the ones that can be worn with any outfit and look so timeless and stunning. They are also so easy to layer with so you can dress up the look easily with other necklaces, but even by themselves, they offer minimalistic and eye-catching beauty.

Stackable Rings

Stackable rings are the perfect accessories to mix, match and experiment with. You can combine simple thin bands, with chunkier studded bands to create unique jewelry combinations that can be worn with any look. Whether it be to run errands in the morning or to go to an event in the evening, they are perfectly versatile.

A Watch

While this may not technically count as jewelry, I would argue that it is technically a functional bracelet. Watches are a piece that is unique to every person and it perfectly complements any jewelry you are already wearing. They provide a form of luxe simplicity while also being helpful in getting you to class on time, a win-win.

A Statement Piece

While every girl needs her everyday jewelry, statement pieces are also needed when you want to well, make a statement. Statement necklaces and earrings are a fun and colorful way to step outside your comfort zone of everyday jewelry and it heightens any outfit when you make the accessory the focal point of your look. Chunky chain necklaces, bold tassel earrings, and large stone rings are all examples of statement pieces you could incorporate into your collection.

This list is a curation of my personal favorites in a jewelry collection but yours can be as creative and tailored to your personality as you want it to be. All of these pieces are timeless and a perfect addition to any jewelry box. Have fun creating your own collection collegiettes, and show off that bling!
