5 Drinks That Help Jump-Start Your Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

As college students we tend to be very busy and continuously on-the-go.  Amidst the mass hysteria associated with college life, we often miss the most important part of the day—breakfast!  With all the stress that goes into preparing for fall semester classes, internships, and long work schedules, we all need our very own nutritional kick-start.  With the wide selection of dining services on campus, we have many options to choose from.  Say goodbye to the inability to concentrate and maintain focus throughout the day.  It is breakfast made easy, swipe and go style!

Naked

The best thing about these jam-packed bottled smoothies is the amount of natural fruit and vegetables it uses to boost your metabolism.  It is a perfect option for those who strive for good health and organic living.  With over 20 options to choose from, chances are extremely high that you will find a flavor that is perfect for you.  Every Naked product provides a daily serving of fruit and vegetables that you will need all in one bottle.  It even gives its customers the naked truth on the side of each bottle by spelling out what fruits or vegetables were blended up to create such a tasty medley.  Most of their options are vegan approved, with no sugar or preservatives added.  These smoothies give you all the energy you need to fulfill your daily tasks.  You can find Naked products at our on campus Starbucks, Johnson Center convenience store, One Stop, Second Stop, and the local grocery stores in the Fairfax area.

Coffee

Luckily, there are many options on campus for our latte-obsessed ladies.  No matter which coffee shop you choose, you will find a place that will satisfy your taste buds.  The smell of coffee kick-starts the olfactory senses in the morning and gets the creative juices flowing.  Think of it, as a much-needed accessory that helps you maintain your focus.  The four main places on-campus are Starbucks, La Patisserie, Einstein Bros, or Jazzman’s.

Iced Coffee/ Frappé

If you prefer your coffee chilled, then these iced beverages are for you!  With its frothy, creamy, and sugary kick, you will find that these iced beverages give you the same caffeinated jolt as coffee.  This beverage may be a more suitable option for students at the beginning of fall semester due to the Fairfax heat wave.  Frappe’s are thicker than iced coffee and come in a variety of flavors.  Both options can also be found on-campus at Starbucks, La Patisserie, Einstein Bros, or Jazzman’s.

Starbucks Refreshers

If caffeine with a splash of flavored green tea gives you energy, then this is the best option for you!  Starbucks Refreshers give you a different taste but have the same effect as regular coffee.  Ideally this product is a refreshing pick-me-up after a half-day but it still gets the job done on your way to and from classes and will have you on your way.  This sleek can fits into any nook and cranny, and can be whipped out when you need it most.  In addition to the cans, Refreshers are also sold in packets at our on-campus Starbucks, so they can be made in the convenience of your dorm room.  In the mid-August and September heat, this drink will serve as the best way to quench your thirst and sustain your daily energy.

Smoothies

If you have more time to spare in the mornings and prefer to make everything the old-fashioned way, create your very own concoction!  In the long run, you will end up saving money, because you will have all the ingredients you need ready-to-go in your dorm or apartment. (After all, collegiettes want to save money for other things, right?!)  This allows you to create anything you want and not have to settle for any product that is missing an ingredient you may like.  The power is in your hands!

Do not worry if you hardly have the time to prepare a hearty meal before you rush out the door to fulfill the mandatory requirements of a full or part-time student.  Many options are made for our convenience and these products work best when your mind and body are completely rested.  But, we all know college throws monkey wrenches from time to time.  You may have to try different things before you find what suites your morning routine and gets you ready to go with the fuel you need.
