Spotify Wrapped 2018 Reveals What You Listened to the Most This Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spotify Wrapped has launched once again to remind us that, yes, there was a time in 2018 other than finals week.

2018 was an eventful year, full of highs and lows, and Spotify allows users to reflect on the music that helped define their year. Spotify Wrapped creates a personal soundtrack based on your favorite artists and songs from the past 12 months and reveals (exposes) some interesting facts about your streaming habits.

To view your year “Wrapped” log into Spotify, click on the “Your 2018 Wrapped” button and connect with Spotify on the window that pops up next. From there you can see what the first song you listened to was, review artists you discovered, learn which star sign was the most common among all of the artists you listened to, learn which artist you listened to the most and guess which shockingly large number is the total number of minutes you streamed this year.

Spotify is encouraging users to share the results of their Wrapped with share cards on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook because according to them, “If you listen to a year’s worth of amazing music and don’t post about it, did it really happen?” Valid point. Premium users also have the opportunity for their Wrapped share card to be featured in Spotify’s global campaign. Their card can be featured on billboards in landmark locations, like Times Square in New York City and Piccadilly Circus in London.

Spotify launched 2018 Artist Wrapped as well, where artists and their teams can review facts about fan listening for the year. Which artists were fan favorites this year?  Drake, Post Malone, XXXTENTACION, J Balvin and Ed Sheeran were the top-streamed artists. In 2018, the world’s most-streamed artist was Drake, with more than 8.2 billion streams and two of the top most-streamed songs this year, “God’s Plan” and “In My Feelings”.

While the most-streamed artists of the year were all men, female artists dropped some major tracks this year too. Ariana Grande’s music was streamed more than 3 billion times in 2018.

The top most-streamed female artists were Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello.

Spotify created a playlist of the top tracks from 2018, top artists of 2018 and top female artists of 2018 so you don’t have to. Thanks, Spotify! If your Wrapped results weren’t what you were expecting (don’t worry, its normal to feel a little embarrassed about how many times you actually listened to “thank u, next” or “In My Feelings”), Spotify has created a customized “Tastebreakers” playlist to broaden your musical horizons for 2019.

Regardless of how you feel about your results (seriously, don’t be ashamed by the reality of your listening habits,) Spotify has created a custom time capsule for you. Wrap up your year and wrap up your semester by revisiting the music that shaped it.

Head to Spotify’s homepage now to hear your year Wrapped, and don’t forget to share it!
