The Puurr-fect Way to Unwind

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

It’s been a long day. You’ve been trudging around campus in the 90+ degree weather. You can’t really tell if you’re breathing or not at this point. Your unnecessarily heavy backpack has begun to weather valleys into your shoulders, and it’s only been two weeks of classes. You already have two papers due, five reading assignments, nine discussion board posts and a group project. You just want to get home, but you still have one more class, and you forgot you walked to campus today. If only there were some way for you to take a break. If only there were some specific day and place available to achieve ultimate bliss.

Fortunately, there is! Tallahassee’s very own bonafide cat café, Tally Cat, will be hosting a kitty yoga event on Sept. 16.

Tally Cat Café is new to Tallahassee, opening earlier this year at 2218 N. Monroe Street. Tally Cat has a unique mission: to acclimate cats with other cats and people in a friendly, stable and fun environment. All of the cats have been rescued by the local Humane Society in Leon County. They’re all updated on their vaccinations, healthy and well taken care of. They are also all adoptable, so if you fall in love with one during your visit you may just end up taking one home.

At the cafe, people can pay $7 hourly rate to indulge in coffee and cats in a relaxed and casual setting. Tally Cat also offers events such as bingo nights on Wednesdays, the opportunity to host birthday parties and now yoga! The yoga event will be held on Sept. 16 and will last from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

What exactly does kitty yoga entail? For the first hour, attendees will participate in the relaxing yoga portion of the event. There may be some mats available on location, but Tally Cat encourages you to bring your own as their supplies are limited. Afterward, if you choose to reach maximum relaxation status, you can unwind with a free coffee or tea and a chance to introduce yourself and mingle with all of the kitties.

If the opportunity to hang out with a bunch of sweet, fluffy kittens isn’t enticing enough, then knowing that a portion of the admissions fee goes directly to the Humane Society should be. Tally Cat Café takes care of their animals and is doing its best to give back.

Being a college student isn’t easy. Getting too stressed or not dealing with stress correctly can lead to many other issues. Instead of desperately trying to ignore your stress or stretching yourself too thin, you can unwind with some healthy exercise and comforting cats.
