Products to Keep Your Skin Moisturized All Winter Long

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

The most wonderful time of the year has arrived! Holiday movies have popped up all over Netflix, Christmas music has begun to flood the radio and the temperature outside lets us know that it is officially sweater weather. As a South Floridian, anything below 75 degrees is chilly to me and with Tallahassee’s temperatures of 50 degrees only expected to get lower, we’ve all got to get prepared for the winter!

Although I’ve been looking forward to being super extra with my Uggs and trench coat all year long, my skin and hair cannot deal with the excessive dryness that accompanies the winter’s temperatures. However, over time I’ve found a few staple products that get me through winter every year. Check out these products and give your skin the hydration it deserves!

Burt’s Bees Coconut & Pear Lip Balm

My body’s first reaction to the cold never fails to be chapped lips. My lips are like Karen Smith’s boobs from Mean Girls – they can feel when a cold front is on the way and shrivel up in response. It is quite uncomfortable and licking your lips only makes it worse. To resolve this issue, I purchased Burt’s Bees Coconut & Pear Lip Balm and it changed the fate of my lips!

Not only does this balm provide an even amount of moisture and leave your lips as smooth as butter, but it’s also 100% natural! This product is available for purchase at your local drug store or on the official Burt’s Bees website.

Nourish Organic Replenishing Argan Oil

Nothing is worse than dry, flaky skin. That’s exactly how my skin reacts to the cold weather. After I wash my face, the moisture quickly fades and I’m left with tight, dry, flaking skin that is uncomfortable and looks terrible under makeup! I have learned to combat this issue with my favorite oil moisturizer from Nourish Organic. A mix of argan, pomegranate and rosehip oil, this moisturizer is specifically designed to hydrate and replenish skin and is packed with antioxidants to protect skin from environmental damage.

I also use this product on my hair to seal my products and ensure that my curls are hydrated and shiny all winter long. The trick to locking in moisture with this product is to apply it while your skin and/or hair is still damp. The dampness from the water provides moisture and the oil is what keeps this moisture intact. I purchased my bottle at GNC and you can also find this product on Amazon for the same price here!

Lush Scrubee Soap Bar

Applying lotion daily is necessary, especially in the colder months of the year. During this time your skin is more susceptible to become dry from cold winds and weather, so you must keep it moisturized! Dry cracks in your skin can cause tiny lesions that can make it slightly painful to do something as simple as washing your hands. To avoid this issue, each winter I go the extra mile and add a shower lotion to my routine to lock in the extra hydration received from the water in the shower. I first discovered shower lotion/moisturizers at Lush, a cosmetic store that provides a wide range of fresh, handmade, organic cosmetic items.

Shower lotions make moisturizing so much easier. All you do is apply the lotion or lather with the soap bar directly after washing and rinsing your body, while you’re still in the shower. My favorite shower moisturizer from the company is the Scrubee bar. Shaped like a bumblebee, the soap bar is composed of ground almonds and coconut shell, honey, cocoa and shea butter. An exfoliant and moisturizer, this bar leaves me soft and glowing with a sweet scent that compares to nothing else! Find a Lush shop near you to purchase this bar and keep your skin hydrated all throughout the holidays!
