Nikki Baldauf: Spreading Hope, One Headband at a Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Meet Nikki Baldauf—the sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale who’s bringing joy and hope to Florida State, one headband at a time. We had the opportunity to interview this bright and inspiring student to learn more about her involvement in this incredible program. As a campus rep for Headbands of Hope, she is very passionate about supporting the fight against childhood cancer. Nikki wanted us to share a few facts with our readers about childhood cancer to help educate students about this all-important issue. Find out more here.

• Worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 3.5 minutes

• In the U.S., one in five children diagnosed with cancer will not survive

• Childhood cancer kills more children than any other disease like AIDS, asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and congenital anomalies, combined.

Her Campus (HC): What exactly is Headbands of Hope?

Nikki Baldauf (NB): The mission of Headbands of Hope is to spread hope in all girls one headband at a time. For every headband sold, another is donated to a child with cancer and one dollar goes towards funding a life-saving childhood cancer research. As the campus rep, it is my job to spread awareness about the company and childhood cancer. I do this by setting up tables during other organizations philanthropy events and sell headbands as well as give information about the company.

HC: How did you become involved with Headbands of Hope?

NB: I stumbled upon the Headbands of Hope Instagram page through other pages that I followed on Instagram. I had already been following the pages of kids with cancer, such as “prayersforkylie” and “prayersforellie.” As I scrolled through their Instagram feed, I fell in love with their mission and was so excited to see a post that said they were accepting applications for campus reps. I sent in my resume right away and couldn’t wait to get started working with this company.

HC: What has been the most rewarding thing so far about being a campus rep for Headbands of Hope?

NB: The most rewarding thing so far has been seeing the enthusiasm people share for the company when I tell them that for every headband sold, another is donated.

HC: What other organizations are you involved in on campus?

NB: I have also recently joined a service fraternity called Episoln Sigma Alpha and they have been so supportive in my mission to help spread hope!

HC: How can we support this amazing cause, Headbands of Hope?
