De-Stress from Finals: Girls’ Night Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

There’s no denying that the last couple of weeks of the semester are some of the most stressful for us all. With essays, exams and projects looming over our shoulders every second of the day, sweating the small things become a daily occurrence. The fact that all of us have been through this experience lends a sense of solidarity for college students who might feel like they’re going through this stress alone. And you know what we all deserve during all this? A little bit of de-stressing fun with your besties. I’ll be giving you some of the best ways to get through these tough days, and all with your girls at your side.

Makeshift “Pleasing” Manicure

Harry Styles has taken over the world. With multiple sold-out tour dates, merchandise to die for and now a skincare and nail polish line, he has our wallets stuffed in his back pocket. For a price tag of $65 for four nail polishes, you might be wondering whether or not it’s worth it. I’m here to tell you that instead of going on a spending spree to cure the finals blues, you should have a night where you pull out all of your nail polishes (whether or not they’re 10 years old) and blast some Harry Styles music. “Find your inner pleasing” and rock out like you’re at Harryween Night Two while you and your friends give each other the cutest manicures. It’s cheap, fun and easy. Not to mention you’ll become the envy of all your classmates when you’re rocking the coolest nails at the final exam.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Movie Night

It’s December now, and you know what that means? It’s Christmas, babes! The most magical time of the year rolls around just in time for you to wish you never chose this major in the first place. How delightful. Fall finals season happening during the most festive month of the year gives you every right to watch a cliché Hallmark movie all curled up in the living room with a glass of red wine—if you’re 21 of course—in your hand and your friends right there with you. To add a little bit of spice, I highly suggest playing a game with the Hallmark movie. Look at the title of the film without reading the description, watch the first three minutes, then pause to write down how you think the rest of the movie will play out. After it’s finished, read all the answers aloud and have a good ole laugh.

Splurge on a Fancy Dinner

Food is friend. Food is love. Food is life. The easiest way to comfort yourself during hard times is by eating some good food, and that money you saved by not buying the Pleasing nail polish will go a long way at a girls’ dinner date. Throw on your cutest outfit, put your hair in a nice little up-do and make your way to your favorite spot to eat. Tallahassee has a million wonderful places to get a great meal with some friends, but I suggest checking out Bella Bella or Harry’s. Both of these restaurants have a sophisticated vibe that will make this outing feel more special. Not to mention the menus are huge and they have offerings for all dietary needs.

Write It Down

This time of year can muster up quite a lot of feelings for us all. We’re missing our families or wishing we didn’t have to go back to our hometowns to see them. Classes are coming to an end and we’re dreading the last few assignments while worrying about the lack of consistency we’ll be having until the spring semester starts. While having fun and taking a break can be an enjoyable thing, don’t forget that it’s important to work through whatever you’re going through. Take a night with your friends to grab a journal from Target, some pretty pens and write anything and everything down that crosses your mind. Journaling has helped me deal with emotions I can’t express fully and it often comes in handy during finals season.

Remember: give yourself a break. Love yourself. You deserve it.

Hey there! I'm a staff writer for Her Campus FSU and my passions include reading, writing and binge watching anything Netflix suggests to me. My major is Editing, Writing and Media and I'm minoring in Women's Studies. I'm a lover of all things Taylor Swift, YA novels and cringey TikToks. In my free time, you can catch me cuddling with my cat Mavis or making some delicious food while an episode of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina plays in the background.
