Meet Liz Iskow: Campus Cutie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

I met Liz during my very first semester here at Florida State (summer term 2010 — memories!) and we’ve been great friends ever since. Liz is such a hard worker and she has the most amazing opportunity coming up soon to live in Israel for an entire year teaching English, which I am incredibly jealous about. She is a passionate Seminole, and even though she is graduating this semester, I know it won’t be long before I see her again. Find out more about Liz and get to know her here!

Hometown: Coral Springs, FL

Major: Criminology

Minor: Sociology

Year: Senior

Her Campus (HC): What made you pick the major you’re in?

Liz Iskow (LI): I wanted to know more about how the criminal mind works and its effects on society.

HC: What do you love the most about being a student at FSU?

LI: I love that there is opportunity for everyone. No matter what your passion is, there is something for you to get involved with, and help better yourself and the community. I loved doing Student Government over the years because it was a humbling experience that motivated me to be a better person and make Florida State even more amazing than it already is. Also, the campus is absolutely gorgeous! I love the beauty and history that is a part of our campus, and [how] everything on campus has a story.

HC: What are your plans post-graduation?

LI: Before I start law school, I am taking a year off to go to Israel to become a teacher. I am so excited that I will be working with little kids in middle to low-income [schools] and teaching them English and giving back to the community. It’s definitely going to be a life-changing experience and I can’t wait to start.

HC: What are you most excited about living in Israel for a year?

LI: I am so excited to immerse myself into a new side of the world, learn a new language, meet new people, and especially to travel the world while I am over there!

HC: What do you hope to experience and take away from your time there?

LI: What I hope to experience most is knowing that I made a difference in children’s lives. It is such a selfless act to help others and such a great experience knowing that you brought meaning to other people’s lives. Aside from the children, I hope to experience EVERYTHING that Israel has to offer: the people, the culture, new foods, new animals, and just pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and trying everything possible.

HC: What are you most nervous about in adult life after graduating?

LI: Finding a job that I am truly passionate about that simultaneously supports my family and [me] financially.

HC: Who is your celebrity crush?

LI: Leonardo DiCaprio. Like a fine wine, he gets better with age. (Leo, if you’re reading this, call me, I love you).

HC: What do you look for in a man?

LI: Good sense of humor, intelligent, family values…you know, the whole package.
