Manu’s Declassified Semester Survival Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

We’re almost there! With only two months left in the semester, things are starting to get rough. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m falling asleep in every class, falling behind with work, and just overwhelmed with the amount of stress going on right now. There is just always something I must check off my to-do list. It never ends!

So, how are we survive until the end of the semester like this? Well here is a list of my top five tips and tricks that help me make every day a productive and bearable day:

1. Keep your personal space clean and organized.

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about a clean, organized space that just makes me feel so good inside. Something as little as making my bed or clearing my desk from all the sh*t gets me ready to take on the day. It calms me to get home to a nice clean, organized room. It’s an automatic stress-free environment.

2. Create your own personal soundtrack aka playlist.

Make a playlist with all your personal anthems. They don’t even have to go together as long as every song gets you up and ready to take on the day. My go-to songs are always “The Bitch is Back” by Elton John and literally any Taylor Swift song (“You Need to Calm Down” gets me fired up in no time). And if you need inspiration, check out mine here.

3. Work out.

I was never the kind of person who enjoyed working out. Like ever. I dreaded the times when my mom would ask me “So are you going to work out today?” because honestly, I never would. But, let me tell you, working out is probably one of the best things you can do to release stress and relax. And the amount of energy I get after a good workout is insane (Just ask my boyfriend if you don’t believe me). No matter what I do or for how long, I just feel so much better and way more productive after. In the words of Elle Woods, “Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!”

4. Once a week take a day for yourself.

Do a face mask, get your nails done, chill in bed all day… the options are endless. Personally, I take Sundays to literally do nothing. I catch up on all the sleep I missed that week, do a nourishing hair treatment, put on a face mask, and shave everything while watching my favorite guilty pleasures (The Secret Life of the American Teenager anyone? LOL). Taking that one day just makes me feel that much more ready to take on everything I need to get done for the next day and after a long week, you deserve to treat yourself.

5. Use FSU’s resources, that is what they are there for.

Whether you need that little extra push to get that essay started or have no idea what is going on in your chem class, FSU’s Reading Writing Center and ACE Learning Studio will quickly become your best friends. Use them. Make appointments or just walk-in and ask for help. That is all I have to say about that.

So, if you feel like you’re struggling to make it through the fall, don’t worry we all are (and this gross weather is not making our lives any easier, just saying). But I believe in us, and remember, your Her Campus Girl Gang is always here to help you make it through. We got this!
