Hey there, Collegiettes! I’m sure most of you know about the artsy murals spread around what’s known as Railroad Square Park, but did you know that every first Friday of the month this cultural hotspot hosts a gallery hop made up of more than 50 studios and small shops?

If you live on campus I would recommend walking, but if you do drive, be sure to arrive a little early since the parking gets full quick. It’s popularity has been on the rise! Step away from the mall because here you can find anything and everything independently made by locals (sweet) all the while enjoying a brew, listening to performances by live bands, and watching the sun set. So make sure to come out and bring your friends this Friday, February 6th from 6-9pm. Make a lap around the groovy activities, check out the new PROOF Brewery/Tap room and indulge in all the foods and treats scattered about the green grounds!

Railroad Square is home to many well-known artists. Their studios are filled with beautiful pieces of a wide variety of mediums and subjects. Sometimes they even host silent auctions which are exciting to get in on!

Tons of established fun shops as well as vendors like to come and make the evening interactive for everyone. Take your old or damaged video games to the arcade repair shop, check out a dance studio or head over to the the club theatre! More hands-on fun includes instructive yoga, jiu jitsu, meditation, rock climbing, kung fu and crafting!

Sculpture & Woodworking

Come check out the people who get gritty with their hands to make amazing pieces of furniture and more. All of this is with a gypsy twist for an exotic, visual experience available to simply browse or purchase!

Shops, Services & Non-Profits

From handmade bags to herbal healing remedies to comic books to a musical experience!

Vintage & Clothing

You were scanning the whole article for this part, right? Shopping! First Friday has a handful of goodies available that will have your friends asking, “Where’d you get that??” The best part is most of the finds are one-of-a-kinds so they can’t copy you!

The uncommon goods found at Railroad Square are made and founded by the coolest retailers in the area you can come by. The clothes available come in their natural state or are lightly upcycled for your benefit when you wear another generation! Both womens and mens clothing can be found in addition to costumes, jewelry, home décor, purses, lamps, art, mirrors, LPs (for you retro music junkies), musical items and smoking items. All of these are very whimsy, fun and relevant to what’s currently trending!

Food & Beverage

Now that I’ve won you over with the shopping, it’s time to make you drool. The place is LOADED with food trucks and houses the only café in town built out of a real caboose! Thirsty? There’s an adorable little coffee shop if you need a wake-me-up with live music for a nice start or end. Want a buzz instead? PROOF Brewing Company has its new location here with state of the art technology. Brew yourself a great one in the Biergarten with live music, bocce ball, and table tennis—all with streamed Christmas lights overhead. Dreamy.
