How to Use the Law of Attraction to Get What You Want

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

So often in our lives, when we have our minds set on achieving a goal, we become discouraged by the long journey ahead and often fall off track. We work hard and struggle to no end, often letting our frustrations blindside us from our original goal. There are often many times where we look back on an accomplishment and think to ourselves, “Wow, if only I had stayed consistent and disciplined I could have completed this a long time ago.” It’s a horrible feeling to have, but luckily there’s a way to combat this pessimism and it’s done by using the law of attraction. How this law works is quite simple: you start off by thinking about a goal that you have, keeping it at the forefront of your mind. The more you think about that goal, the more opportunities that are going to become present in your life to achieve it. When you’re constantly focused on your goal, opportunities will jump out at you that you hadn’t noticed before.

I know it feels that our lives can be so hectic at times that we feel as if there’s no time to self-reflect and get into the right frame of mind. A way to battle this struggle is by using the 17 second rule. The 17 second rule, by Abraham Hicks, is when, for 17 seconds, you take time to yourself to think solely about what you want to accomplish; visualize it happening. Most likely after that you’re going to think of another good thought, and then another good thought, eventually leading you to have a train of positive thoughts. Everyone has 17 seconds in their day, and if you take this time out of every day to envision your goals or simply something that makes you happy, this will not only improve your mood but it also will attract more positivity into your life.

What we think and put our energy into dictates our moods and the way we live our lives. If we get stuck in a negative cycle of self-doubt, it drags us down. If we truly make our well-being a priority by focusing on goals that will make us better as people, that positive energy will be returned to us. It’s important to remember that you control the thoughts that are going through your head. If you find yourself stuck in a bad state of mind, use those 17 seconds to remind yourself of something that’s good and positive. Even if your goal is what’s stressing you out, just think of something that makes you happy. 17 seconds may not seem like much, but it’s a short and simple way to invite peace and positivity into your mind. Repeating positive affirmations to yourself will help improve the quality of your thoughts, therefore improving the quality of your moods.

Reaching a goal takes an enormous amount of strength and there are times where you won’t want to stay consistent with your plan, especially when you’re in a bad mood. When you use those 17 seconds to shake off the negativity, it can help rejuvenate your self-esteem and improve your spirit. Light attracts light, and as long as we do our best to keep pushing forward, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Our mindset creates our reality, and when we utilize the law of attraction, alacrity and strength will multiply within ourselves to keep us on track to victory.
