Fall semester at FSU is a glorious time. Football is back (for better or for worse), PSL’s can be found at any Starbucks on campus, and the air begins to get chillier. With all these amazing aspects of fall, it can be easy to get distracted from schoolwork and jobs/internships. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to help you enjoy this semester while still being successful.

DO: Attend football games

Football games at FSU are legendary. There’s nothing like being packed into Doak Campbell Stadium and screaming the war chant with almost 80,000 other Seminole fans. Even if you don’t like football, still try to make it out to at least one game because there’s no better feeling than cheering on your team in your own stadium. Plus, those cute game day outfits & pictures are always a yes.

DON’T: Tailgate so hard you forget who your team is

Sounds silly but, it happens every game. Tailgates are only as fun as the people you’re with, so make sure you’re surrounded by good friends who are going to take care of you. Part of the FSU experience is getting to rally with friends before the game and walking/skipping/driving/running/whatever your preference is to Doak before kickoff. And make sure you survive all the way to halftime because our Marching Chiefs are no joke!

DO:  Take advantage of the beautiful weather

FSU’s campus is gorgeous as is, but when you throw in the changing colors of the leaves, the lighter air and the overcast skies, you’ve got the most stunning campus in the U-S-of-A (non biased opinion BTW). This semester, try to wake up a little earlier and walk to class! If that’s too much of a struggle – I totally get it – walk around campus in between classes and just enjoy the beautiful nature that surrounds you!

DON’T: Skip class and sleep in because you’re comfy

Being a Miami girl makes me appreciate Tallahassee’s Fall weather all the more because our winters down south are 75F. That being said, when it gets the slightest bit colder in Tally all I want to do is stay in bed and be comfy and cozy. You can see how this would lead to a vicious cycle of skipping class so try to resist the urge to drink hot cocoa in bed while watching Gilmore Girls. Instead, throw on a cute winter outfit and own your class day by looking cozy and fabulous.

DO: Load up on the warm comfort food & drinks

Seasonal fall drinks and food are, in my unpopular opinion, what makes the world go round, especially at FSU. The change in weather creates an atmosphere that screams “grande pumpkin spice latte with a maple pecan muffin,” am I right? When you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by this semester’s workload, take a break and treat yourself to a yummy fall snack *in moderation* because calories don’t count until the New Year!

DON’T: Spend all your money first semester

It’s so tempting to want to spend all your money during the first semester, but be reasonable with your spending! There are lots of ways to enjoy fall without having to deplenish your bank account. Try staying in on a weekend with your friends and watching a fall movie if you want to have fun without spending money. OR you can re-watch Gilmore Girls for the seventh time because you love yourself! Pace your spending so you can enjoy the spring semester too because let’s be honest, it’s always great to be a Nole no matter what season it is!

I'm a senior from Miami, FL majoring in Public Relations and pursuing a Master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communication. Think of me as the love child of Samantha Jones & Carrie Bradshaw, plus throw in a little Cuban spice.
