This school year has been one full of zoom classes and sitting in front of computer screens for countless hours. To give myself media breaks, I spend a lot of time going on walks around campus, enjoying the fresh air and the gorgeous natural beauty that Florida State University’s (FSU) campus has to offer! For continuing and incoming students, I wanted to compile a list of campus locations in no specific order that I believe every student needs to stop and appreciate. These sites never get old, so when you’re feeling down, get up and take a walk.

1. Unconquered Statue

This stop is an obvious one, as it is one of the most iconic locations on campus. However, it is deserving of a place on this list! The Unconquered Statue sits at the end of Langford green in front of the stadium. The university has stated that the statue was created by “Fritz White and embodies the indomitable spirit of the Seminole people.” It features a flaming spear which is ignited in honor of significant University and Seminole Athletics events. A walk by this statue and the stadium is not only great for getting your steps in but also can bring up many happy memories of game days and the promise of more!

2. The Greek Park and The Sweet Shop

I included these two spots together as they are so close to one another that it practically makes up one stop. The Greek Park has beautiful trees, foliage, flowers, a bronze statue named “Three Sisters” and the “Alpha Delta Pi Meditation Pavilion.” This space is a campus effort to conserve green space and has dedicated the area to recognize its legacy sororities and fraternities. It is a gorgeous stop and has great trees to set up a hammock and make an afternoon studying or relaxing. The Sweet Shop has been a staple on FSU’s campus since 1921, with the inside walls covered in signatures and messages from alumni and current students. This stop, you are encouraged to pop inside, get a drink and relax while reading messages from other college students from across time.

3. Legacy Walk

Many students walk to and from classes along this walkway as there are many classroom buildings; however, it’s far from a boring walk due to one thing…the TREES! This is one of my favorite routes to take when I need to revive my brain that has been slowly deteriorating with every assignment added to my to-do list. I have been that girl and I will always be that girl who is obsessed with trees, and this walk is covered with trees. It’s easy to get lost in the twists bends of the vast branches that hang high above you, creating a peaceful canopy. I have probably taken a thousand pictures of all of these trees, garnering a few weird side glances from others passing, but in my opinion, this is one of the best relaxing spots to take a walk through on campus.

4. Landis Green

As a staple of the FSU student’s life, the green is always filled with energy as it is the perfect place to do just about anything. Each time I walk here, there is always something different happening from silent discos, outdoor movies, studying or frisbees being tossed around. You name it! I have found that Landis is one of my favorite reading spots as I could plant myself underneath one of its giant trees and be content for hours reading and people watching. And if you’re lucky, you might get to pet someone’s dog!

5. Wescott Fountain

The fountain is where my feet take me most days at the end of my walk as I like to sit and watch the water and people just enjoying how wonderful this place is. The fountain is the perfect photo spot since it sits amongst all of the red brick on the ground and the surrounding buildings. It is also a beautiful piece of school history as it was “a joint gift from the Florida State College for Women classes of 1915 and 1917.” Students for over 70 years have appreciated this landmark on campus and creating lasting memories of their times here at FSU.
