The Rise of a New Queen Bee: Alix Earle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Hopefully, you haven’t been living under a rock and know the name, Alix Earle. If you don’t… respectfully, look her up. This social media sensation has made quite an impressive climb to the top. All thanks to her viral “Get Ready with Me” videos (commonly known as GRWMs) and lovable personality, she is the new “it girl.” Originally from Monmouth County, New Jersey, our fav girl shows a fun, extravagant lifestyle while maintaining relatable, authentic and goofy content.

The 22-year-old college senior studies marketing at the University of Miami and spends her days attending class, going to all the Miami hotspots and parties, plus traveling for brand partnerships and business opportunities. Her content includes her viral day-in-the-life videos and GRWMs; typically consisting of moments recounting her life as a college student while she picks out outfits and does her makeup. She is a trendsetter, a businesswoman and has racked up over five million followers across all her social platforms.

Not only has Alix been blowing up, but she has completely reinvented the idea of GRWMs. The early 2000s trend started on YouTube and has since been re-popularized on TikTok. In fact, the hashtag #GRWM has more than 59.5 billion views, and I can’t blame anyone for that: they’re addicting. It’s like falling into a rabbit hole, and Alix Earle’s hole is the biggest. In fact, in their report on the epidemic of  “Get Ready With Me” videos, Vogue mentions how comforting they are and how some of the fastest-growing creators owe their popularity to these kinds of videos – Alix is one of them.

However, she took a different approach to them. They normally consist of guiding the viewer through their makeup process and skincare routine. While Alix does do this to an extent, it’s more about how she uses her products and routine as a visual distraction while she talks and shares stories from her life. Whether or not she realizes what she’s doing, viewers are eating it up. It’s her trademark and the key to her ever-growing fanbase and success. Alix has taken them to another level, and we can’t help but love it. I’d be crazy to think that I could mention the name Alix Earle without talking about her holy grail product recommendations. Fans go crazy for these, and you’re lucky to get your hands on the products before they sell out! Her influence reaches far and wide. One thing many fans love about her is the predictability of her content: you always know what you’re going to get when you come across her videos. Regardless of the content, you can guarantee you’re about to be entertained because she always shares her unfiltered thoughts, stories and drama!

So, what makes people gravitate toward her? Well, it could be her enviable array of clothes, flawless makeup, crazy recounting of intoxicated adventures or bubbly personality. Or it could be all of the above. She’s built a reputation and brand around being extremely candid and open about her life, struggles and being an influencer. Her honesty has made her page a safe space for many girls, and they’re able to relate to her struggles; a big one that she’s shared has been her acne journey. She’s been real about the emotional turmoil that comes with having acne and shared raw, unfiltered photos updating followers about her cystic acne and Accutane experience. “It took so long for me to recognize that this is a normal thing happening to me and that I didn’t need to try and hide it from every single person.” She advises her followers, saying, “The thing that started to help me was [that] I would just pretend that nothing was there, and I wouldn’t think of that as my defining factor.” She acts as Tiktok’s big sister that’s been there and done that.

She’s so real and upfront— unapologetically herself. Alix is a fun-loving, open and relatable individual. She’s “a hot mess,” and we love her for it. Her life seems like a dream, but at the core of it, she’s just like us. And while we love seeing her live her best life rubbing shoulders with Hailey Bieber and going to insane invents, we love her goofy content with her besties, how she interacts with followers and shows that behind all the cameras… she’s human just like we are.
