The day that all the fashion girls around the world thought would never come: The Devil Wears Prada 2 has just been announced, and let’s just say, the office is in shambles. The second those gold-studded Valentino pumps strutted across everyone’s screens, history was made.
After years of countless interviews telling the world that there won’t be a second movie, it seems that producers finally caved, or came to their senses, and are blessing us with the highly anticipated sequel to the movie that inspired countless young girls, myself included, in fashion journalism.
20th Century Studios has left us in a shroud of mystery as small snippets from the coming sequel slowly sprinkle across the internet, letting us know practically nothing about the plot of the movie, while they have me biting my nails in anticipation.
Although the cast has always been notorious for having tight lips when it comes to anything Prada-related, Anne Hathaway has been letting fans in on little sneak peeks, most notably what kinds of clothes Andy Sachs can be seen wearing in the sequel.
The teaser has Andy dressed in a matching pinstriped waistcoat and trouser combo that brings a classy, confident feel to our favorite journalist. Hathaway brings Andy back to life with one simple line in the teaser, and one is all she needs to make her entrance.
As for the devil herself, the iconic Meryl Streep comes to reprise Miranda Priestly in a new, updated look that feels like classic Miranda. All I’m saying is that I’m happy they haven’t changed her haircut. I think the “silver vixen” hairdo will never be outdone.
Even though most of the plot hasn’t been revealed to the public, we can infer what might show up in the final product of the film. The movie may incorporate the book sequel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, with an original spin to keep up with the times.
Especially in today’s age, with print becoming a dying physical media medium, the movie may take a unique turn away from the book sequel and focus more on how the world of print magazines has changed since the early 2000s.
A few friends of mine have even suggested that the movie may take place in the early 2010s instead of the 2020s, which would make the time jump a lot less jarring. Either way, seeing Miranda adapt to a new set of rules in the fashion industry will be an interesting take on a character that we all know is very set in her ways… but don’t tell her I said that.
Along with the recurring cast members that we all know and love, talks of new faces in the film have been floating around, such as Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, and Kenneth Branagh, to name a few.
Personally, seeing my favorite Bridgerton girl, Simone Ashley, who plays the lovely Kate, in The Devil Wears Prada 2 is going to be the biggest whiplash of my life, but I’m so here for it. Lucy Liu, Hollywood legend, also has me at the edge of my seat, wondering who she’s going to play. My guess, definitely some type of high-class fashion designer working for Runway.
No matter which direction the producers decide to take the film, it’ll be a sight to behold revisiting old characters and seeing them interact on the big screen once again. I, for one, am excited to know how the movie will handle the changing dynamic of the fashion industry and hopefully show some new outfits that will be sure to show up on my fashion inspiration board.
The movie has been announced to be making its debut on May 1, 2026, just in time for spring, groundbreaking.
