My Summer Watchlist: 7 Shows and Movies I’ve Been Saving All Semester

Madison Dear Student Contributor, Florida State University
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Now that the semester is pretty much over, the only assignments I have left are the ones I’ve given myself: the movies and shows I’ve been saving all year for when I’m not swamped with work.

Some of them are classics I somehow haven’t seen yet, some are newer shows I’ve been seeing everywhere but haven’t gotten around to watching yet, and some are shows I’m anxiously awaiting to be released!

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

I finally watched Mamma Mia! this semester at the FSU Askew Student Life Center, and my life has since been changed. Obviously, I have to watch the sequel, too.

Now that I actually have time, I’m excited to do a mini movie marathon with a friend or two and fully immerse myself in the Mamma Mia! aesthetic like I was born to do.

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette

Okay, don’t come after me, but I still haven’t watched Love Story, even though I keep seeing people raving all over TikTok. All of my friends have been obsessing over the tragic story of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which seems to have everyone in a chokehold.

It’s been sitting on the back burner for way too long, but as soon as I’m finally done with this semester, this is one of the first things I’m starting. Then, I can finally understand what all the hype has been about.

White Chicks

Again, I know what you’re all going to say: girl, how have you not watched White Chicks? I get the same reaction every time I tell someone that I haven’t watched this iconic movie yet. I already know I’m late to the party on this one, but I’m hoping I can also watch it with a friend and make a fun time of it.

It feels like the perfect chaotic comedy to watch when you just want to laugh and turn your brain off for a bit. Plus, I’ll finally be able to appreciate all the references from it fully.

The Bear

I recently started The Bear, and I’ve quickly become addicted to the pure chaos of it all. It’s stressful in a way that somehow makes it impossible to stop watching, not to mention that I’m a sucker for super complex storylines and characters, which this show has no shortage of.

Not only do I plan to finish this show, but the timing is perfect, with a new season coming out this June!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

I’m experiencing so much FOMO over this show right now, it’s not even funny. It’s been all over my TikTok, and it looks so interesting. Have I watched Game of Thrones? No, I haven’t. Should I also be adding that to my watch list this summer? The answer is probably yes, so I’m not totally lost.

But until then, I’ve been trying so hard to avoid any potential spoilers. I’m literally counting down the days until I can watch this. I actually think that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is what I’m most excited to watch on my list, and I’m more than prepared to binge it all in one night.

Invincible

I unfortunately fell way behind on Invincible during the semester and just never had the time to catch up. My summer plan is to fix that and binge-watch everything I missed so I can be ready for the next season, which releases in 2027.

Lord of the Flies

As soon as I saw the trailer for this, I knew it was going on my watchlist, and I can’t wait for its release on May 4. It looks incredibly well done, and I can’t wait to see how these young new actors bring justice to this classic!

I don’t think I’ve ever been more ready for summer, and I’m beyond excited to get into some good shows and films. Obviously, these aren’t the only things on my watch list (it’s starting to look concerningly long), but these are what I’m most looking forward to watching!

Hi! My name is Madison, and I’m a student at Florida State University majoring in Editing, Writing, and Media with a minor in Psychology. Writing has always been one of my favorite outlets for creativity and expression, which is why I love being part of a community that values sharing ideas and sparking meaningful conversations.

When I’m not working on school assignments, you can usually find me reading, journaling, or exploring different design projects. I’ve always been drawn to the way stories—whether through books, shows, or articles—can connect people, challenge perspectives, and create new ways of thinking. One of my all-time favorite shows is Criminal Minds, and I never get tired of analyzing the characters and storylines (sometimes with a little too much detail).

I’m also passionate about discussing music, literature, and social issues. Whether it’s dissecting song lyrics, reflecting on novels that stick with me long after I finish them, or diving into conversations about culture and society, I enjoy exploring topics that make me think more deeply about the world.

I’m excited to write, create, and connect through Her Campus—and hopefully inspire others the same way I’ve been inspired!
