There’s nothing quite like a cozy night in with your roommates. I know those nights are some of my favorite college memories; between the busy schedules and piles of assignments, sometimes all you need is a night to laugh, unwind, and spend some time with your best friends. I don’t know about you, but my friends always lift my spirits and make life worth living again.
The hardest part is deciding on which movie to watch. To make your next movie night a little bit easier, I’ve curated the perfect must-watch list for college roommates. This list is filled with everything from rom-coms to the perfect rewatch for nostalgia.
- Superbad
-
This is a classic I watched for the first time this past summer, and it definitely lives up to the hype. I can bet almost every one of you has heard of McLovin or at least seen his iconic Hawaiian fake ID.
This movie follows two best friends trying to make the most of their last few days in high school. They end up in so many hilarious, ridiculous situations that the whole movie feels chaotic in the best way. This is the perfect movie to pick when you and your roommates just want to reminisce about high school and have a great laugh.
- Pitch Perfect
-
If one movie captures the essence of college friendships, it’s Pitch Perfect. This movie follows a college freshman who joins an accapella group.
This is one of those movies that’s impossible not to sing along to. I grew up watching all the Pitch Perfect movies with my cousins, and it’s become such a nostalgic memory for me.
- Roommates
-
This is the newest movie on my list, and I watched it when it first came out in April 2026. This movie stars Sadie Sandler, who is one of Adam Sandler’s daughters.
It’s perfect for college roommates because it captures everything that having a roommate entails. From the ups and downs to the fights and unforgettable moments, this movie captures the reality of sharing a space with someone else.
- Meet the Fockers
-
If you are looking for a funny series of movies to have all your friends laughing, then Meet the Fockers is a must-watch. This movie follows Greg Focker, who meets his fiancée’s parents for the first time, and let’s just say it doesn’t go well. This movie is full of the perfect family dynamics.
I also love how there is a series of the Fockers movies. There’s even one in production right now and set to come out in November 2026. This series of movies will keep you and your roommates entertained for sure.
- Little Miss Sunshine
-
When you and your roommates are in the mood to watch something hilarious yet heartwarming, then this is the one. I stumbled upon this movie one day and have loved it ever since. This film follows a quirky and dysfunctional family that goes on a road trip to support their daughter’s dream of being in a beauty pageant.
This movie is a great reminder that life isn’t always going to happen according to plan, and that the people around you are the ones who matter. This is perfect for those days when you feel like college life is overwhelming, and the pressure has become too much.
- 13 Going on 30
-
This is one of my favorite 2000s rom-coms of all time. It follows a 13-year-old girl who makes a wish on her birthday to be older. The next morning, she wakes up as her 30-year-old self, who is successful and beautiful.
Although at first this seems like the perfect outcome, she soon realizes that she has become selfish and has fallen out of touch with the people who matter most. She realizes what truly matters and chooses to reconnect with her childhood best friend, Matt.
I think this movie serves as an important reminder that success isn’t everything in life and that it’s important to remember those who support you. Sometimes college can get stressful when it comes to building your career, and you can easily forget what is truly important. Plus, it’s a fun 2000s throwback!
- 21 Jump Street
-
Although I’m not a typical movie rewatcher, this movie defies that. I watched 21 Jump Street back in high school and immediately fell in love. The vibe it creates and the way it keeps your attention are incredible.
The movie follows two new cops who go undercover as high school students to find a drug and its dealer. This is one of the most hilarious movies I have ever watched, and I absolutely love the dynamic between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
-
This is an iconic 80s comedy, and I’m sure you have all heard the iconic quote from it: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
It follows Ferris, a high school senior who decides to skip school and spend the day in Chicago. Between him almost getting caught, the car, and his elaborate schemes, this movie is the perfect reminder to slow down and enjoy life. I love that this movie serves as a good time, but also a reminder to enjoy the stage of life you are in.
- The Hangover
-
No movie night with friends is complete without The Hangover. This movie follows four friends as they spend time in Las Vegas for a bachelor party. They wake up the next morning to a trashed hotel room, a tiger, and a missing groom. The best part? They don’t remember any of it.
As they try to piece together the truth under the time constraint of getting the groom back to the wedding, they find themselves in one crazy situation after another. This is the movie to watch when you want a good laugh and a break from reality.
- 500 Days of Summer
-
This movie is for when you and your roommates want to laugh, cry, and everything in between. This movie follows two people who try to navigate a relationship when they both view the commitment differently.
As college students, we are all very familiar with situationships, and this movie is just that. It discusses the highs and lows of relationships, heartbreak, and the expectations that we have for others. This is one of my favorite movies to get other people’s opinions on and have fun discussions.
At the end of the day, the best part of a movie night is never the movie; it’s the memories and the people you are with. I hope the next time you’re enjoying a night in with your roommates, this list helps you find a fun movie to watch. College can be overwhelming, but sometimes, all you need is a cozy night in with your best friends!
