#CULTforGOOD: Elijah Daniel’s Impact

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Elijah Daniel is a man of many talents. Among other things, people know him for throwing a dildo at Donald Trump and banning all straight people from Hell, Michigan as its temporary mayor. He is a rapper (known as Lil Phag), an advocate for LGBTQIA+ communities and disenfranchised, a social media influencer, a comedian and an author. The homeless are at extreme risk due to the corona virus outbreak, so he has decided to step up with his initiative “CULT for GOOD”.

The name comes from the name of his fan base – “Cult of Chaos”. He started this campaign to collect donations and supplies for the homeless population in Los Angeles. On day one of his quarantine he tried finding organizations to help the homeless to support no one could be found. He decided to start his own. He started out collecting hygiene supplies for the LA homeless. Through social media, his fan base has spread the link to donate while Daniel himself has used it to reach out to large companies to ask for donations and assistance. The first company to assist was the Forcer app – from there more companies and people started to join in like We Are Verified, DUDE Wipes and more. Within days, thousands of supplies including soap, water, hygiene products, diapers, baby formula, nonperishable food, menstrual products and first aid supplies have been collected. The last count of supplies was almost half a million. Additionally, as of March 20th he received a guarantee from Vivera Pharmacy that they will donate free Covid-19 tests in the coming weeks that are rapid and on site to the supply packages. UHAUL and Enterprise Rent-A-Truck have also donated vehicles. Yesterday, he and a team of volunteers took “CULT Relief Trucks” into LA to begin handing out supplies.

Daniel has put together all of this –  a whole network of volunteers, influencers, millionaires, transports, storage, donations and supplies within a week, even spreading awareness of the cause and the plight of the homeless populations through hashtags on Twitter such as “#ProtectEveryone” and incentives like following people back on social media if they tweet the hashtag. His Instagram and Twitter feeds are hubs for constantly promoting and encouraging everyone to take part or spread the word. He has also been using them to call out the government and bring real statistics to the forefront on COVID-19 and the government’s ability to really help. This public rally has caused the FDA to approve Vivera Pharmacy’s COVID-19 test.

This hashtag and his fanbase ended up trending at #28 on Twitter’s trending page two days ago due to all the activity. Currently, he has vans set to drive these critical supplies not only to Skid Row in LA, but to San Diego, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle as well this week. He wants to get relief to every city in America, his goal to help as many people in as many cities as he can. On the project’s website, he states that more than 80% of the supplies being handed out are bought by family and minority owned small businesses in an effort to help their community. He has expanded the ways of donation, dropping merch where 100% of the profits go directly to help with supplies and bring relief trucks to more cities. His cause may be growing, but the message stays the same; he says in his first statement about the whole CULT for GOOD Project, “we are here to come together as one cult, people over politics, people over profit, protect everyone.”
