Your Smosh Character Based on Your Major

If you grew up on classic YouTube, you probably have a visceral reaction when you hear the words, “Shut up!”

Smosh, one of the pioneering sketch-comedy channels on YouTube, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. FSU celebrated its 250th anniversary this year. What’s the correlation? Well, I like Smosh, and I go to FSU, and if you’re reading this, you’re probably in the same boat too.

With over 20 years of iconic characters and 250 years of top-tier academics, let’s see which Smosh characters best embody your FSU major.

CRIMINOLOGY: DETECTIVE SARAH CHRIST

Created by cast member Amanda Lehan-Canto, Sarah Christ is a parody of Kate Winslet’s character in Mare of Easttown. She’s a disgruntled ex-police detective who has dedicated her life to catching the notorious serial killer, The Creekside Killer.

Although she may be a little rough around the edges, Christ is dedicated to her pursuits. You, criminology girl, will catch your Creekside Killer one day (even if your Creekside Killer is just trying to pass your class).

FINANCE: THE GENTLEMEN

These gentlemen know a thing or two about financials. The Gentlemen are an ensemble of old, wealthy business moguls. They go on exotic journeys to foreign lands, mine oil, and do it all with the utmost manners. They also have a jam-packed schedule like you, finance major. They juggle dates with wives and mistresses, oversee their children in the mines, and have time to unwind with a game or two.

You’ll manage your busy schedule, and become a gentleman too one day.

COMMUNICATIONS: THE TELETUBBIES

Stars of the screen, the Teletubbies know how to live it up. They’ve been around every aspect of the College of Communications and Information. They’ve appeared on screen, had PR crises, marketed their show, and they’ve been everywhere.

Despite their differences, they learn to look back at their time together and communicate their grievances effectively. They’re a colorful bunch, just like all the communication majors out there.

PSYCHOLOGY: THE BYSTANDER

The bystander, first introduced in a “Try Not to Laugh Challenge” video, is a man of few words: he observes. Watching, waiting. For what, we don’t know. We see you psychoanalyzing everyone at the function, psych major. In a way, you are everyone’s bystander. Coffee in hand, you observe. What do you observe? We may never know.

ENGLISH: FRED DARTS

What a way with words you have, English major. Fred Darts, created by cast member Spencer Agnew, is a special guy. He may not be all that good at his namesake, but he makes up for it with his linguistic skills and personality. He’s creative, an icon and legend, and an all-star. Yes, he’s a Fred Durst parody, but he doesn’t let that define him.

HISTORY: THE CHOSEN

@katpee.everlark

#THECHOSEN : impressive. (Ignore the fact that the timings off and there isn’t enough clips at the fast parts 🤫) #smosh #shaynetopp #smoshedit #starman

Throughout history, there has been one. One to conquer them all, throughout space and time. A holder of great power. They are “The Chosen.”

The Chosen is one of Smosh’s most well-known characters. Portrayed by Shayne Topp, “The Chosen” acts as a parody of middle schoolers who believe they are the main characters. However, the internet has taken this character and turned it into a symbol of power across all dimensions.

You, history major, hold the power of knowledge. The power to examine all Chosens across history. History is wild, but we have you to guide us, so it may not be so bad.

WOMEN’S STUDIES: STRAIGHT CHANSE

This is a half-joke, but Straight Chanse is kind of your enemy. However, you, a Women’s Studies major, could listen to ladies’ chattering all day. You’re important, and we need more of you! You would most definitely beat straight Chanse in Survivor, and we need that.

There are so many other majors out there, but these characters best embody the ones that I’ve chosen here. If you haven’t watched Smosh before, you can check out their skits and more on their YouTube channel.
