As students, we all know how important your major is in determining your career, but can it determine your dating life?

Whether you’re planning a date night or looking for something new to do with your significant other, Tallahassee offers plenty of options for a memorable night out, on and off campus. From local coffee shops and live music to outdoor adventures and creative experiences, there’s something for every interest.

No matter what you’re studying, here are some date ideas inspired by your college major and the places Tallahassee has to offer!

Business: Coffee date

If you’re a business major and stuck on where to bring your date, get to know them over a coffee chat at Tallahassee’s local coffee shops! Black Dog Cafe, Patchwork Coffee, and Calvin’s Coffee House all offer a cozy, laid-back aesthetic, so you can loosen your tie while you get to know each other.

Bring your date to Lucky Goat Coffee and impress them with your knowledge of the way the Tallahassee-based coffee roasters have expanded into franchising all around the Southeast. Or, buy them one of The Frothers Daughters’ unique coffees while you talk about thinking outside the box and creative strategy.

Connect on LinkedIn, ask them where they see themselves in five years, and come up with your dream cafe that you’ll own together. Finally, show off your networking skills by striking up a conversation with a barista. You never know where your next job opportunity might come from!

Music: MUsic date

If music is your love language, Tallahassee’s rich music scene has plenty of dates worth adding to your playlist!

Catch a live performance at Club Downunder, where you can see your favorite artists and discover new ones for free. Check out The Bark to enjoy local music and karaoke every Wednesday night! If you’re in the mood for jazz, head to Ology Midtown for Jazz Night and enjoy live performances from talented FSU jazz students. It’s the perfect opportunity to appreciate improvisation and live musicianship.

For a more laid-back date, grab a blanket, your instruments, and head to Landis Green for a jam session! Whether you’re sharing your favorite songs or making up your own, it’s a fun way to bond over your love of music.

Environmental Science: Outdoor date

If you love exploring nature and want to share that with your date, Tallahassee is the perfect place for outdoor dates! Check out the Tallahassee Museum, but don’t let the name fool you. This museum has beautiful natural trails, rope courses, and animal exhibits. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors while learning something new together.

Or, admire the beautiful, decades-old canopy of moss-draped Southern live oak trees at one of Tallahassee’s many parks! Alfred B. Maclay Gardens offers the perfect date ambience with scenic walking paths, beautiful gardens, and a touch of history.

For a day trip, visit Wakulla Springs State Park and enjoy swimming, kayaking, or a scenic boat tour while taking in Florida’s natural beauty.

Who needs a fancy dinner when you have Florida’s natural beauty as your backdrop?

Psychology: puzzle date or people watching

If you’re fascinated by human behavior and understanding what makes people who they are, put your psychology knowledge to the test with a date that challenges your problem-solving and communication skills!

Head to Secrets Escape Rooms and become immersed in a mysterious story. Work together to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and escape before time runs out. It’s a great way to see how well you communicate and work together under pressure.

For a more laid-back date, grab a table at one of College Town’s outdoor cafés and enjoy some people watching. Make up stories about the passersby, observe the different personalities around you, and see who can come up with the most creative backstory!

Fine Arts: Art date

As an arts major, it is your duty to make sure your date knows the best art Tallahassee has to offer.

The Tallahassee arts community is at its most vibrant during First Fridays at Railroad Square, a free event that takes place every first Friday of the month. Here you can explore art galleries and creative small businesses, listen to live music, and enjoy delicious local food.

Visit the ASLC’s Paint-a-Pot, where you can each paint a piece of pottery and see how your art styles align. Sign up for a tour and creative workshop at FSU’s Museum of Fine Arts, or step outside of your comfort zone and try out the art of cooking at Brown’s Kitchen with their cooking classes!

For a cheap date, visit a local art market, bring your sketchbooks to a park, or challenge each other to draw portraits in five minutes. You might discover a hidden talent or end up with a very questionable portrait to remember the night by.

Who knows? You might just find your next creative muse!

No matter what you’re studying, Tallahassee has plenty of ways to make your next date night memorable. From coffee shops and live music to outdoor adventures and creative activities, there’s something for every major and every kind of couple.
