Finals season is here, which means it’s time to spend an absurd amount of money and time at your nearest coffee shop. Across FSU’s campus, there are plenty of study spots, yet somehow, every one seems to be full for the entirety of finals week. No matter what your major is, you’ll probably end up at one of these locations.
So, here’s my take on which campus study spot you are, depending on your major!
Strozier Library: Marketing
All my marketing girls know the drill: drink in hand, headphones on, iPad out. Though it may look like you’re scrolling on Instagram, we know every post you see gives you another marketing technique for your resume. Strozier Library has everything marketing majors need for a midday or late-night study session, from its in-house Starbucks to its hundreds of desks, perfect for studying (or socializing… we won’t judge).
The Sweet Shop: English
A few steps away from the Williams Building, Sweet Shop Cafe & Lounge is the perfect place for English majors to grab a snack, settle in, and grind out that final paper. The comfy booths and wall-to-wall memorabilia create a personal, cozy nook. If you get tired of whatever you’re reading, you can always read the writing on the wall instead.
Dodd Hall: Philosophy
The cathedral-like sanctuary that is Dodd Hall provides a dimly lit, silent environment perfect for deep thinking. Whether you’re pondering the meaning of life or just trying to finish your paper, Dodd Hall gives philosophy majors a space away from society to get stuff done.
Dirac Library: Biology
If you’re studying in Dirac, you’re probably last-minute cramming for an exam you forgot about because you had four others the day before. Dirac is the perfect place for bio majors to lock in before their finals and avoid the talkative nature of Strozier.
Herbert Wertheim Center: Accounting
The sleek, modern, minimalistic style of the new College of Business matches the calculated, driven nature of accounting majors. The freshly furnished, meticulously placed decor replicates the professional environments that accounting majors will likely find themselves in in the future, making it a great place to prep for their finals.
1851: Hospitality
What better way to practice your hospitality skills than by surrounding yourself with the restaurants of 1851? The lively, populated environment is just what hospitality majors need to balance their social lives and studying for finals.
Landis Green: Communication
Soaking up the sun and getting things done isthe perfect combo. Communication majors take any opportunity to connect with others, including studying. Why study in a stuffy study room when you could have fresh air, be people-watching, and Vitamin D? Comm majors know just the right balance of play and productivity, and somehow get stuff done while still having fun.
Health and Wellness Center: Sports Medicine
The in-building gym, medical facilities, and relatively professional atmosphere of the Health and Wellness Center give sports medicine majors exactly what they need to conquer their classes. Plus, it’s right near their classes, too, so it adds the perk of convenience to an already appealing study spot.
Student Union: Political Science
The perfect place for political science majors is none other than the iconic Student Union. Open all day, food easily accessible, and enough noise to practice debating without getting weird looks. Political science majors have everything they need to survive in the Union, making it the perfect place for them to cram for finals.
Mina Jo Powell Green: Music
If you’re a music Major, you’re probably in need of a break from the stuffy practice rooms, open air, sunlight, and a relatively private place to practice for exams. Whether you’re reading sheet music, singing opera, or playing an instrument, Mina Jo Powell is the perfect place to take a breather in between practices.
No matter your major, there’s a study spot for you here at Florida State. Finals season is the perfect time to find your go-to sanctuary, so take advantage of the stressful studying and explore the countless options that FSU has to offer.
