What Fantasy World You’d Live In Based on Your Major

Growing up in the era of fanfiction, I’ve always been curious about what it would be like to live inside the worlds of these stories.

I’ve dreamed of studying in a magical castle, exploring mythical forests with my closest friends, and fighting off mythical creatures. These fictional universes have lived in my head for years, and now that I’m in college, I can’t help but imagine what major I’d choose in each one.

harry potter: education

The world of Harry Potter is perfect for education majors. The entire plot takes place within a school, where learning and knowledge are foundational to survival.

In this universe, knowledge is power. You’d have access to a magical library, live alongside mythical creatures, and get hands-on learning through potions, spells, and experiments. Hogwarts is the perfect place to learn, where even the smallest lesson could change your life (or save it)!

Lord of the rings: history

Middle-earth is for the history majors. The story is shaped by ancient wars, lost civilizations, and carefully preserved records that guide the present.

In this world, history isn’t optional; it’s essential. Characters rely on knowledge of the past to avoid repeating devastating mistakes. Knowledge is passed down through songs, scrolls, and legends. From ruined kingdoms to long-forgotten battles, understanding history is the key to protecting the future. Living in Middle-earth means seeing firsthand how history shapes every choice, alliance, and adventure.

percy jackson: classics

Percy Jackson was difficult to assign, but classics is the one that aligns the most. The entire universe is built on Greek and Roman mythology, drawing directly from ancient texts and epic poems, giving new life to these legendary figures.

In Percy Jackson, myths are real and educational. You’d be able to surround yourself with ancient stories that explain your identity, train alongside gods and heroes, and see how classical literature still influences the modern world. Camp Half-Blood becomes the ultimate classroom for learning history, language, and myth through lived experience.

DIvergent: psychology

I know it isn’t technically a fantasy world, but I had to throw it in. Divergent is best for psychology majors, as the faction system is based on personality traits and behavioral control. You’d get to witness this system in action and explore what makes people who they are. You’d also get to see how people adapt, challenge rules, and discover their true selves under pressure.

Game of thrones: political science

Game of Thrones works best with political science majors. Power, governance, diplomacy, and war strategy drive the plot, with every decision shaped by ambition and control. Politics are what shape society, and in Westeros, a single political decision can determine the fate of entire kingdoms.

From the magical halls of Hogwarts to the epic landscapes of Middle-earth, the heroic adventures at Camp Half-Blood, the daring challenges of Divergent, and the dramatic politics of Westeros, each universe has its own kind of magic.

These worlds truly are so comforting to dive into, so get cozy and spend some time with them. Whether it be watching a show or reading a book, losing yourself in the story can be truly exciting.
