Meet Yasmeen – a bubbly, intelligent, and well-rounded student at FSU. She is extremely involved here at Florida State, leaving her mark as a selfless role model to all. Read on to learn more about this week’s Campus Cutie!

HC (HerCampus): Who is your role model in life?

YB (Yasmeen Battle): Hmm…my mother, as cliché as it sounds, is my role model because she is and was an excellent, educated [woman] led by integrity, and she had a lot of strength. That is something I aspire to do.

HC: What is your dream job?

YB: Getting paid to travel across the US to motivate high school seniors. I feel like a lot of the time high school seniors need motivation to apply and go to college, and I feel like a lot of seniors don’t go because they don’t know about it or take the time to know a lot about it, so I would want to encourage as many high school seniors as I can to go to college.

HC: Do you have a quote you live by?

YB: Something that Mr. Kenton (FSU Associate Director for Collegiate Programs) told me really has stuck with me for a while. The quote is, “don’t ever tell yourself no, let people tell you no.” At one point in time, I would tell myself, “no, I can’t,” to certain things because I felt like I couldn’t do it. He always told me to go for the opportunity. When people tell you no, you take it as it is.

HC: What organizations are you part of at FSU?

YB: Currently, I’m the education coordinator for “With Words” which is a social justice program. I am also a part of the Black Female Development Circle. 

HC: What is your favorite place to be on campus?

YB: I don’t want to give away my secret place! You know what, I’ll tell you. My favorite place is the meditation room on campus. Not a lot of people know about it though.

HC: If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be?

YB: Cookies n’ Cream, because I love that flavor. It’s like a cookie (the oreo) which is like my skin, and the cream is sweet and I consider myself sweet. So yeah, definitely Cookies n’ Cream.

Felicity graduated in May of 2018 from Florida State University with a double major in Editing, Writing, & Media and Media/Communication Studies. Before joining the team full-time, Felicity was a staff writer, content editor, the managing editor, and the campus correspondent throughout her four years at the FSU chapter. She has interned with Better Homes & Gardens, Sarasota Magazine, and Sachs Media Group during her college career. In her spare time, Felicity likes to explore new coffee shops, go to any local concert, or hunt for new finds at her favorite thrift stores.
