The Best Vegetarian Eats Close to FSU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Being vegetarian in Tallahassee isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it’s also not impossible. I’ve tried all of our specialty vegetarian restaurants in the area and they are, frankly, uninspiring. However, there are plenty of restaurants that offer amazing vegetarian options that are super close to campus. This is just a short list of the many vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Tallahassee. The restaurants mentioned are all walking distance from campus, but there are even more great places including Mayuri, Samrat, Tokyo Sushi, Sweet Pea Café and Voodoo Dog that are just a short drive away. No matter if you are a full-blown meat eater, pescatarian or vegan, at any of these places anyone can have a fantastic and satisfying meal.

1. Nefertari’s

Located at 812 S Macomb Street, right off Gaines, this restaurant has probably the best ambiance and décor of any place I’ve ever been in. They focus on many different types of dishes from Southern favorites to Indian classics. Nefertari’s offers a huge selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes that are distinctly unique and unbeatably delicious. I highly recommend Isis’s nachos, which are seriously a nacho-lover’s dream. I honestly can’t overhype this amazing restaurant enough and omnivores and herbivores will love it for sure.

2. Mr. Roboto

This is an already very beloved spot that really doesn’t need any promoting, but I think it’s imperative to take a moment and talk about their tofu. This is the best and most superbly cooked tofu that I’ve ever had. After ordering General Tso tofu, which is already a fairly difficult dish to find, I had no idea what total food bliss I was about to experience. In addition to my favorite tofu, they have a delicious vegetarian option for everything listed on the menu.

3. Pitaria

Pitaria is a quick and cheap Greek restaurant on West Tennessee Street with an amazing amount of vegetarian options. Most restaurants typically just present you with a few vegetarian options, but Pitaria has 10+ options and they are all incredible. Pitaria has an almost overwhelming amount of options in a very good way, and even if you are not in the mood for Greek, Pitaria has an amazing teriyaki tofu hoagie that is out of this world.

4. Sweet Shop

An iconic Florida State café that almost everyone has been to, The Sweet Shop, sits right at the edge of campus on Jefferson Street. Although there are not many vegetarian options, it is important to note that the best veggie burger in the world lives here. Made with an everything-bagel bun, tomatoes, lettuce, hummus, and a spicy falafel-like patty, this burger is a dream. It’s a messy, but unbelievable meal that makes the Sweet Shop a must-stop for vegetarians and vegans

5. All Saints Café

All Saints Café has a completely vegan menu with a really hip, punk-rock atmosphere, but unfortunately, the list kind of ends there. The food is good, but it is a premade, prepackaged, and microwaved menu. However, it’s a viable interest if you’re vegan and need something fast that is close to campus.
